PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chester Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gates might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to 9 Piece. Cote is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: For Those About To Rock - ACDC. Chester Gates had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chester Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Cote!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gates shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cote holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Gates tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Cote is trying to stand up.
Gates throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Gates working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Gates wants to control the pace but Cote is squirming around nicely.
Gates controlling his opponent.

Cote wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gates.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gates lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gates wants to control the pace but Cote is squirming around nicely.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Gates throws a nice looking combination but Cote bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Chris Cote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gates fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cote swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Gates fakes the leg kick and cracks Cote in the body.

Gates shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cote's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gates gets to his feet. Cote looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Gates closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gates is taking a breather. Cote says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Cote is refusing to be controlled, as Gates sits in half guard.

Cote has hold of Gates's hands but Gates slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Gates wants to take a breather but Cote is having none of it.
Cote is trying to stand back up but Gates is controlling him

Chester Gates has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Gates fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Cote is breathing heavily.
Cote throws a big shot that misses.
Gates has a takedown stuffed.
Cote misses with a combination
and Gates counters with a head kick. That will keep Cote thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Gates tries for a takedown but Cote sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chester Gates. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cote throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gates scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gates fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cote avoids it really well and circles away.
Gates goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Cote misses with a hook.
Chester Gates is winning the standup battle so far.
Gates closes the distance and clinches up with Cote, looking for a takedown. Gates pushes Cote against the cage but Cote circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Gates closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cote's guard.
Gates controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Gates trying to control the position from guard on top but Cote is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

We're going to have a standup here because Chester Gates wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Cote lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gates circles away quickly and effectively.

Gates closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gates is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Gates misses with the ground and pound.
Cote is being controlled here.
Gates has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Cote is trying to buck Gates off.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Chester Gates just wasn't active enough.
Cote steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Gates. That one must have hurt.
Cote throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gates connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Gates gets a double leg takedown into Cote's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gates has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Cote's face.
