The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Gentry sprawls well initially but Smith persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Smith trying to mount his opponent but Gentry defends it.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Gentry wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.
Gentry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Smith.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Smith is looking to advance position but Gentry won't allow it.

Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gentry sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gentry really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smith. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gentry postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Smith is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gentry, into his guard.

Smith drops back looking for a leg! Gentry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gentry manages to kick Smith off! Smith jumps back into Gentry's guard.

Smith lands a big shot there that rocks Gentry but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gentry takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Smith's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
