PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Bane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bane kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sweet Skunk blues. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xavier Bane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Anderson Harris!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris fails with the takedown
and Bane counters with a solid body kick.
Harris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bane is fending him off so far but Harris persists. Nope, Bane circles away and we're back to standing.
Harris takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Bane throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Harris gets a takedown into half guard.
Bane is trying to stand up here but Harris is controlling him well.
Bane is pressing down on Harris's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Harris trying to control the position from guard on top but Bane is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bane striking off his back but it's not causing Harris any problems.
Bane wants to stand but Harris is controlling the position.
Harris controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Anderson Harris.
Bane throws a lazy right hand but Harris sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Bane. No joy for Harris on that attempt.
Xavier Bane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Harris.
A head kick misses from Bane.
Bane throws a nice looking combination but Harris bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Bane drives through with a takedown into guard.
Bane throwing strikes but missing.
Bane is looking to work some ground and pound but Harris has wrist control.
Harris manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Bane manages to get himself to full guard.
Harris trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bane manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bane jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Harris manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Check out the look on Bane's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Bane is looking to take a break and control but Harris is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Harris defending against the ground and pound.
Bane creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Harris sneaks back into half guard.
Harris works his way to full guard. Good work.
Bane postures up in Harris's guard and throws a big left but Harris blocks it.
Bane slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Harris trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Bane is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Harris is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Harris has escaped and now he's on top!
Harris tries to free his leg and advance position but Bane is retaining full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Harris trying to control but Bane is working from the bottom.
Harris won't allow Bane to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Xavier Bane dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Harris gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Bane counters with a head kick. That will keep Harris thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Harris stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Bane.
Bane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Harris pinned against the cage. Harris gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Bane tries a head kick but it misses.
Harris fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Harris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bane tries to avoid it but Harris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bane to the ground. Bane escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Xavier Bane has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Harris.
Harris shoots and misses

and Bane counters with a takedown into side control.

Bane tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bane wants to control but Harris is keeping him busy.

Harris seems a little lost for a moment, as Bane dominates the positioning.
Harris takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Xavier Bane overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bane misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Bane goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Harris rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bane's guard! Nice work there by Harris!
Bane looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Harris content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Bane is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Harris defends well.
Bane wants to stand and escape but Harris is having none of it.
Harris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bane throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Bane wants to improve his position but instead Harris has moved into half guard.

Harris is keen to just control but Bane is a slippery customer.
Harris throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Harris misses with a head shot. Bane uses the momentum to regain guard.
Harris missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Harris working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Harris wants to control from the top but Bane keeps moving.
Harris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Bane is wriggling around but Harris manages to pass to half guard.
Bane wants to get back to full guard but Harris has passed into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Bane is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Bane throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Harris shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bane napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Bane is pushing Harris's head away, looking to escape. Harris manages to hold on to the position though.
Bane tries to buck Harris off but Harris is having none of it.
Harris lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Bane down.

Harris goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bane has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Harris but great work by Bane.
Harris can't do much from the bottom here.

Bane is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Harris has escaped the position, nice work there.
You can see the frustration on Harris's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Harris is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Bane trying to control the position but Harris is working away.
Bane misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bane looks up at the clock and then as Harris takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bane smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Anderson Harris has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Bane throws an elbow but Harris slips to the side and avoids it well.
Harris is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bane's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Harris is staying active underneath Bane, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bane is in close to Harris's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bane not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Bane wants to control from the top but Harris keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Bane chips away with some ground and pound.
Harris trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Bane looking to sit in guard and control but Harris gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We're going to have a standup here because Xavier Bane wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Harris fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Xavier Bane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bane tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bane lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Bane.
Harris shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Bane sprawls well. Bane wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Harris gets slowly back to his feet.
Bane scores with a sloppy right hand. Harris should have avoided that one.
Xavier Bane is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bane tests Harris's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Well Bane has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
