Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hector Alves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Macklin!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves loads up on a big right hand but Macklin slips the punch.
Joseph Macklin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Macklin misses with a right hand
and Alves connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Macklin throws a looping overhand right but Alves ducks down to avoid it.
Macklin throws a combination that misses
and Alves counters with a nice body shot.
Alves uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Macklin.

Alves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Macklin did well to prevent Alves getting side control.
Macklin won't allow Alves to pass to mount.

Alves is looking for a kimura but Macklin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Alves to get the leverage.
Macklin is controlling Alves's trapped leg to prevent Alves from advancing to side control.

Alves is trying to control. Macklin wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Alves is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Alves is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Macklin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Alves.
Alves seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Alves throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Alves looks to land a strike but Macklin avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Alves throws an elbow that misses. Macklin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alves's guard. Nice move by Macklin!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Alves jumps guard and drags Macklin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

We're going to have a standup here because Hector Alves wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Alves postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Macklin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Alves, into his guard.

Alves is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Macklin is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Alves gets his way!

Alves is looking for a choke. Macklin gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Macklin manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard.

Macklin displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Alves throws out the jab.
Alves throws a hook to the side of Macklin's head but Macklin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Macklin scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Macklin cracks Alves with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

and Alves counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Alves lunges at Macklin with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Macklin's hand.
Alves swings for the body but Macklin moves out of range.
Macklin throws an overhand right that lands on Alves's shoulder, as Alves tries to avoid the shot.
Macklin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Alves moves away.
Alves will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Joseph Macklin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Alves on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Alves thows a left - swing and a miss!
Alves tries for a takedown but Macklin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

The fighters circling - Alves throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Alves swats away the attempt to clinch by Macklin.

and Alves counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Macklin!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alves swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Macklin is now in Alves's guard. A big mistake from Alves there, giving up the dominant position!
Hector Alves overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alves is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Alves looking to hit a scissor sweep but Macklin is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Hector Alves just wasn't active enough.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alves has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Alves, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
