PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Troy Bellamy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Blake Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Troy Bellamy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Blake Turner!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Turner throws a big shot that misses.
Turner throws a series of punches but Bellamy moves out of range.
Turner shoots in for a takedown but Bellamy shows good takedown defense.

Turner has closed the distance and engaged Bellamy in a clinch.
Turner is looking to break free of the clinch but Bellamy has double underhooks.

Turner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bellamy shoots in for a double leg but Turner sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bellamy tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Bellamy closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Turner quickly recovers to half guard.

Turner tries to roll over but Bellamy keeps him under control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bellamy wants to take a breather but Turner is having none of it.
Bellamy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bellamy passes the guard and advances to mount!

Turner is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.

Bellamy has hold of Turner's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Turner manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Turner is looking to get to half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Turner can do anything to dispel that myth.

Turner is wriggling around trying to escape.
Turner tries to lock up and control but Bellamy gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Bellamy is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Turner can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Bellamy lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Bellamy is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Turner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Turner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bellamy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Turner is desperately trying to improve his position but Bellamy has a good base and remains in mount.
Turner looks gassed!
The referee warns Turner that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Bellamy lands a heavy elbow.
Bellamy with a couple of short strikes.
Bellamy lands a big shot there that rocks Turner but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

You get the feeling that Turner really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Bellamy has control of Turner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Turner regains control of the situation pretty easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee warns Turner that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Turner is trying desperately to improve position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bellamy is landing with some decent strikes but Turner is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Turner flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.
Bellamy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Turner looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Troy Bellamy dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Turner gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Turner prevents a takedown attempt there.

Turner breaks from the clinch.
Bellamy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Turner is fending him off so far but Bellamy persists. Nope, Turner circles away and we're back to standing.

Bellamy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Turner wants to control from the top but Bellamy keeps moving.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Bellamy pushes Turner off and scrambles back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bellamy shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Turner counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Turner.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Troy Bellamy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Turner loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Turner is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Blake Turner hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Turner shoots in but no luck this time.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bellamy leaves Turner with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Turner has managed to clinch.
Turner is trying to drag Bellamy to the mat but Bellamy just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

The fight stays on the outside here - Turner looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Turner tries to clinch up but Bellamy circles away and keeps his distance.
Bellamy fails with an attempt to clinch.
Horrible takedown by Bellamy or perhaps it was just good defense by Turner which made him look bad.

Troy Bellamy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Turner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bellamy manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Turner has Bellamy in his guard.

Blake Turner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Bellamy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Bellamy shoots in for a takedown but Turner shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Bellamy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bellamy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Troy Bellamy overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Bellamy is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Turner to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Turner shrugs it off.
Turner is trying desperately to improve position.
You get the feeling that Turner really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Turner is in a horrible position here. Bellamy smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
