PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Player One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Levi Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Player One has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Player One!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Levi Jones!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
One misses with a double jab
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
One walks into a left hand.
One shoots for a double leg takedown but Jones sprawls well. He's pushed One's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but One moves away.
Jones fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Jones misses with a straight left.
Jones will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
One fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
No luck with that takedown attempt from One.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Player One. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Donk. Jones catches One right on the button with a cross.

That's one minute gone in the round.
One dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on One's head and hops out.
One throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.
One shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and One takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Jones scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from One.
A shot to the body from Jones misses

and One counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

One is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jones has escaped the position, nice work there.
One postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Jones tries to buck One off but One is having none of it.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Jones manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Jones is doing well to control the position and prevent One from advancing to side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.

One wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jones slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

One trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

One is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Jones is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Jones has escaped and now he's on top!
Jones wants to pass the guard but One is keeping the position.
One not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. One swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones trying to stand up but can't free himself from One's guard.
Jones slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
One controlling the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Player One wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Jones throws a looping overhand right but One ducks down to avoid it.
Nice shot lands for Jones.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Levi Jones dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


One dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on One's head and hops out.
Jones lands a jab to the head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from One.
Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing.
One shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jones eats them both and turns towards One to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Jones throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck One on the side of the head.
No luck for One with that takedown attempt.

and Jones counters with a lovely straight right hand!

One shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Jones as he avoids it easily.
One fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Jones counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Jones throws the left hand but One avoids the punch easily.
One shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
One fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jones displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from One.

One fails with the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
One fails with an attempt to clinch.
One takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jones comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Jones has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

One is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
One needs to keep his hands up - Jones had a free shot at his head there.

One shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Jones's jab looks to have found its range, popping One under the eye.
Jones throws an overhand right that lands on One's shoulder, as One tries to avoid the shot.
Jones throws a body punch but One moves out of range.
Levi Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. One does a little dance to reset his feet.
One takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Jones lands a straight punch to the body, keeping One at a distance.
Jones swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by One.
One avoids the body shot from Jones.
Player One is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jones comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. One doesn't seem bothered though.

Levi Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Jones leaves One with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Jones tries to bum rush One with a series of wild strikes but One uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but One moves away.
One looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

and One counters with a shoot takedown. Jones fights it but they end up in guard.
Jones is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and One dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones is trying to control One's posture but One avoids it.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with One. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

One tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Player One has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jones is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, One asserts his dominance and retains side control.

One is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Jones knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Levi Jones is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
One landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
One throws an elbow but Jones slips to the side and avoids it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Player One.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
