Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Alexandrov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Daniel Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ivan Alexandrov!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexandrov throws a right and a left that Cormier avoids nicely.
Alexandrov tries a head kick but it misses.
Cormier shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alexandrov as he avoids it easily.
Alexandrov tries to clinch but Cormier moves out of range.
Alexandrov throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cormier.
No luck for Cormier with that takedown attempt.

Cormier shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cormier showed some decent athleticism there.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cormier looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Cormier thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Alexandrov is looking to control Cormier's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Alexandrov avoid being mounted?

Alexandrov regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Cormier.
Alexandrov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Alexandrov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cormier is aware though and is defending well.
Cormier is looking to work some ground and pound but Alexandrov has wrist control.

Alexandrov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Cormier knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alexandrov on the ground.

Cormier postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Alexandrov throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Cormier might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Alexandrov avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Cormier is looking to work some ground and pound but Alexandrov has wrist control.
Alexandrov has Cormier pulled in close to control his posture.
Cormier could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Alexandrov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cormier's guard.
Alexandrov wants to stand but Cormier has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Cormier on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cormier tries to get out of the position.
Cormier is breathing heavily.

Alexandrov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alexandrov trying to control the position from guard on top but Cormier is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Daniel Cormier will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Cormier looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alexandrov is fending him off so far but Cormier persists. Nope, Alexandrov circles away and we're back to standing.
Cormier takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Alexandrov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cormier pinned against the cage. Cormier gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Alexandrov throws the kick towards the body but Cormier avoids it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Alexandrov avoids the body shot from Cormier.
Cormier fails with the takedown.

Cormier darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Cormier wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alexandrov keeps working.
Alexandrov moves into full guard.
Cormier throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alexandrov works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Alexandrov not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Alexandrov is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Cormier frees his head nicely. Oh but Alexandrov has switched to an armbar! Cormier is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
