PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aristos Ioannidis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Hanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ioannidis's entrance music is If I Can't - 50 Cent. A fine choice. Hanson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Dropkick Murphys - I'm shipping up to Boston kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Pat Hanson will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aristos Ioannidis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Pat Hanson!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanson tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ioannidis swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Hanson throws a nice looking combination but Ioannidis bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Ioannidis closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hanson's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Ioannidis gets to his feet. Hanson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Ioannidis clinches up with Hanson and pushes him back against the cage.
Hanson tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Ioannidis breaks from the clinch.
Hanson wants to clinch but Ioannidis slips to the side

and Ioannidis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ioannidis stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Ioannidis closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ioannidis lands in his opponent's guard.

Hanson's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Hanson duly obliges.

Ioannidis closes the distance and clinches.
Hanson landing knees to the head.
Ioannidis effectively controlling the action here.
Hanson throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Ioannidis blocks it with crossed arms.
Hanson tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Hanson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ioannidis avoids it.
Ioannidis tries to circle away but Hanson has him pinned against the cage.

Ioannidis has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Hanson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ioannidis keeps control of the position easily here as Hanson tries to buck him off.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hanson is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.

Pat Hanson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Ioannidis feints and as Hanson raises his hands in defense, Ioannidis changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ioannidis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Aristos Ioannidis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ioannidis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Ioannidis keeps the fight on the outside.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hanson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Ioannidis moves into the clinch.

Ioannidis ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Ioannidis no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Ioannidis wants to sweep here but Hanson controlling him for the moment.
Hanson tries to stand but Ioannidis is controlling from the bottom.
Ioannidis wants to stand and escape but Hanson is having none of it.
Ioannidis scores with a couple of body punches from the bottom.

Ioannidis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hanson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ioannidis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ioannidis is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hanson still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hanson has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ioannidis sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Ioannidis is trying is best to control the position here.
Ioannidis is looking to improve his position.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Ioannidis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hanson.
Hanson tries to clinch up.

Ioannidis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Hanson is defending against the submission attempts here by Ioannidis.
Ioannidis wants to control but Hanson is keeping him busy.

Ioannidis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Ioannidis is working for a kimura but Hanson is defending it quite comfortably.

Ioannidis is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ioannidis tries to pass to full mount but Hanson defends it.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Hanson pushes Ioannidis off looking to stand but Ioannidis dives back in and keeps control.

Hanson swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

so Ioannidis counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Hanson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Ioannidis paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Ioannidis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Some wild striking there from Hanson.

Ioannidis shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hanson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Hanson dodges the ground and pound from Ioannidis.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ioannidis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hanson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Aristos Ioannidis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ioannidis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
