PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Masahiko Kimura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akhiro Matsuy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matsuy has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masahiko Kimura!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akhiro Matsuy!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matsuy looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kimura is fending him off so far but Matsuy persists. Nope, Kimura circles away and we're back to standing.
Matsuy closes the distance but Kimura moves to the side

and Kimura counters with a shoot takedown. Matsuy fights it but they end up in guard.
Matsuy looks gassed!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Kimura's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kimura postures up in Matsuy's guard and throws a big left but Matsuy blocks it.
Kimura works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Kimura wants to free his trapped foot but Matsuy is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kimura postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Matsuy to stand up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Kimura changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Matsuy tries to avoid it but Kimura manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Matsuy to the ground. Matsuy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kimura shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Matsuy is trying to defend but Kimura finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Kimura takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kimura throwing shots but Matsuy is blocking nicely.

We're going to have a standup here because Masahiko Kimura wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Kimura shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kimura content to control rather than advance.

Kimura throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kimura is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Masahiko Kimura has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Kimura drives through with a takedown into Matsuy's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Kimura throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Matsuy works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Matsuy utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Kimura stands up from Matsuy's guard - Kimura perhaps looking for a knockout.
Matsuy moves out of range as Kimura strikes.

Kimura has taken the fight to the clinch.

Kimura has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Matsuy regains guard immediately.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kimura is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Matsuy keeping moving, preventing Kimura from controlling successfully.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kimura works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Kimura controlling the pace.
Matsuy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kimura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Matsuy can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kimura frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Masahiko Kimura dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kimura has a takedown stuffed.

Kimura moves into range and clinches up with Matsuy.

Kimura lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Kimura seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Matsuy for as long as he can get away with.
Matsuy is breathing heavily.

Kimura maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Matsuy could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Kimura has cracked it and Matsuy is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Kimura!
