The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithwick lands a jab-cross combination.

It looks like Maximus Spartilius has been cut.
Smithwick fails in his attempt to clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Smithwick. No joy for Spartilius on that attempt.
Spartilius looks to score with a jab to the body but Smithwick is just out of range.
Smithwick tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Spartilius paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A big left from Spartilius misses.
Spartilius looks gassed!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Smithwick breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Spartilius lands a jab to the head.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spartilius swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smithwick tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Spartilius manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Spartilius gets tackled into the cage by Smithwick. Smithwick maintains the clinch.

Smithwick breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smithwick keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Smithwick pushes Spartilius up against the cage in a clinch.

Smithwick ducks under a wild hook from Spartilius.

Smithwick takes the fight into the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Smithwick.

Smithwick escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Smithwick is looking to clinch.
Mick Smithwick is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Spartilius dodges the punch combination from Smithwick.

Spartilius tries to keep at a distance but Smithwick has taken the fight into the clinch.

Smithwick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Smithwick tries to close the distance and clinch but Spartilius swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smithwick ducks under a wild hook from Spartilius.
Spartilius looks for a takedown but Smithwick sprawls well.
Smithwick throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Spartilius stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smithwick lands a left and a right that send Spartilius crashing to the mat, dazed. Smithwick thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Spartilius is rocked!

Smithwick closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Spartilius is still on wobbly legs! Can Smithwick finish him?
Smithwick creates a bit of space for himself and rocks Spartilius with a big uppercut! Spartilius tries to clinch up but Smithwick pushes him back against the cage and lands another monster strike that crumples Spartilius to the mat! Spartilius covers up and Smithwick unloads with more strikes until the referee steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Mick Smithwick!
Mick Smithwick was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
