The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez lands a really nice looking cross but Maven seems unphased.
Mendez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Maven tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Mendez presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Maven really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mendez unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Maven wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Mendez celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
