Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Kai Avares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeffry Schoenmakers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kai Avares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeffry Schoenmakers!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schoenmakers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Avares avoids it really well and circles away.
Schoenmakers doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Avares counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Schoenmakers seems keen to control Avares's posture.
Avares controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Avares trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Avares drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Avares wants to control from the top but Schoenmakers keeps moving.
Avares advances position into side control!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Avares wants to lay and pray for a moment but Schoenmakers keeps working.
Avares is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Schoenmakers's shoulder. That is not cool.
Schoenmakers is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Avares thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Avares stands up and beckons Schoenmakers to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Avares tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Schoenmakers swivels and escapes.
Schoenmakers has his takedown stuffed

and Avares decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Schoenmakers's guard.
Kai Avares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeffry Schoenmakers.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Avares wants to control from the top but Schoenmakers keeps moving.
Schoenmakers is adopting a defensive guard.
Avares engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Kai Avares has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Schoenmakers shoots and misses

and Avares counters with a shoot takedown. Schoenmakers fights it but they end up in guard.
Schoenmakers looks gassed!

Avares stands and steps away. Schoenmakers gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Avares scores with a jab to the head.

Avares shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Schoenmakers manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Avares controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Avares trying to control the position from guard on top but Schoenmakers is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Avares throws a big right hand that misses.
Avares tries to free his leg and advance position but Schoenmakers is retaining full guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

We're going to have a standup here because Kai Avares wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Avares shoots in but no luck this time.
Avares dives in and grabs Schoenmakers's left leg, looking for a takedown. Schoenmakers pushes down on Avares's head and hops out.
Schoenmakers fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kai Avares dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Schoenmakers moves out of range of the body kick from Avares.
Avares leaves Schoenmakers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kai Avares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeffry Schoenmakers.
Schoenmakers wants to clinch.

Avares drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Schoenmakers is breathing heavily.

Avares wants to control from the top but Schoenmakers keeps moving.
Avares postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Avares passes Schoenmakers's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schoenmakers has hold of Avares's hands but Avares slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Avares decides to stand up.
Schoenmakers moves out of range as Avares throws a body kick.
Avares misses with a low kick.
Schoenmakers fails to land the takedown.
Schoenmakers shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Avares pinned against the cage. Avares gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Avares changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schoenmakers looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Avares decides to stand back up. Avares steps back and let's Schoenmakers get back to his feet.

Avares tries for a takedown but Schoenmakers sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Avares looking to score a takedown here. Schoenmakers is defending well but Avares drives through and ends up in Schoenmakers's guard.
Schoenmakers is trying to keep Avares in close.
Avares might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Avares controlling from the top position.
Avares trying to control but Schoenmakers is working from the bottom.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Avares slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

and Schoenmakers counters with a straight right hand.

Avares shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Avares showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Avares moves into full mount! Schoenmakers won't be happy about that!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schoenmakers is looking to get to half guard.
Schoenmakers reaches up to try and control the position but Avares seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Schoenmakers rolls and tries to escape and now Avares has his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Schoenmakers avoids the head kick by Avares.
Schoenmakers looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Avares is fending him off so far but Schoenmakers persists. Nope, Avares circles away and we're back to standing.
Kai Avares is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Avares misses with a low kick.
Avares missing with a left hand there. Schoenmakers was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Avares keeps the fight on the outside.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Schoenmakers is defended easily by Avares.

Schoenmakers pushes Avares up against the cage in a clinch.
Schoenmakers takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Avares pulls guard effortlessly.
Schoenmakers postures up.
Schoenmakers trying to control but Avares is working from the bottom.

Avares lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schoenmakers!
Avares putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!

Schoenmakers defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Avares.
Avares lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Avares lands a big shot there that rocks Schoenmakers but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Schoenmakers is in a horrible position here. Avares smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Avares controlling the pace for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Avares has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Schoenmakers's face.

Schoenmakers is in a horrible position here. Avares smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Avares goes for an armbar but Schoenmakers turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Schoenmakers.
Schoenmakers must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Avares avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Avares bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Schoenmakers's guard.
Avares controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Avares stands up and waves to Schoenmakers to follow him.
Schoenmakers has a takedown stuffed.
Kai Avares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeffry Schoenmakers.

Schoenmakers doesn't manage to clinch there - Avares circles away.
Avares tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Schoenmakers paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Schoenmakers as Avares shoots in.
Schoenmakers shoots in but no luck this time.
Avares tries to clinch but Schoenmakers is having none of it.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schoenmakers enables Avares to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schoenmakers manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Schoenmakers keeping moving, preventing Avares from controlling successfully.
Schoenmakers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Avares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kai Avares showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Avares, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
