Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hugh Jackman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Ribeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ribeiro is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Marcelo Ribeiro was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hugh Jackman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marcelo Ribeiro!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ribeiro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ribeiro tries for a takedown but Jackman circles away easily
and Jackman counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Ribeiro doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jackman counters with a lovely straight right hand!


It looks like Marcelo Ribeiro has been cut.
Hugh Jackman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcelo Ribeiro.
Ribeiro shoots in but no luck this time.
Ribeiro throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jackman's waist but Jackman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ribeiro off to one side.
Ribeiro fails to land the takedown.
Ribeiro swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ribeiro keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Jackman dips to his left and cracks Ribeiro with an uppercut!

Ribeiro closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Ribeiro lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Ribeiro throwing strikes from guard but Jackman blocks nicely.

Jackman is looking to stand up but Ribeiro isn't so interested in that idea.
Ribeiro slips nicely into half guard.

Ribeiro looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jackman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ribeiro on the ground.

Ribeiro is pressing down on Jackman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jackman is holding on for now.

Ribeiro performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Jackman pushes Ribeiro off looking to stand but Ribeiro dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ribeiro looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Jackman is not content to let Ribeiro control the position.

Jackman is defending against the submission attempts here by Ribeiro.
Ribeiro not doing much here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcelo Ribeiro dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Marcelo Ribeiro's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ribeiro throws a leg kick but Jackman sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Ribeiro shoots in and drives through. Jackman sprawls well.
Jackman cracks Ribeiro with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Jackman tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ribeiro was well out of range. Poor timing from Jackman.
Jackman misses with an uppercut. Ribeiro saw that one coming.

Ribeiro shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ribeiro trying to mount his opponent but Jackman defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ribeiro sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Ribeiro passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jackman!
Jackman wants to try and get back to his feet.
Jackman on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jackman tries to get out of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ribeiro looking to finish with strikes here!
Ribeiro sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Jackman holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Ribeiro tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Ribeiro unloads with some shots from mount but Jackman bucks and avoids them well.

Ribeiro has control of Jackman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Jackman regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Jackman is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ribeiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ribeiro misses with a head shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jackman defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ribeiro.
Ribeiro is landing with some decent strikes but Jackman is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Ribeiro is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Ribeiro extends the arm and Jackman is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Marcelo Ribeiro!
Our winner, Marcelo Ribeiro, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
