PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronan Hollace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hollace has chosen Outside by Staind as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 33 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronan Hollace!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A nice leg kick lands there from Hollace.

Hollace darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hollace is nestled in close to Thomas, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hollace missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Thomas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Thomas is not content to let Hollace control the position.
Hollace is thwarting Thomas's attempts to control the position.
Hollace throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Hollace is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Thomas defends it well.

Hollace wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Thomas wants to control but Hollace is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Thomas regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hollace.
Hollace stays in close to Thomas's body and controls the position.
Thomas has momentary wrist control but Hollace slips an elbow through the middle.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hollace stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Thomas is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hollace is working Thomas over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hollace is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hollace trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Hollace in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Hollace has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Thomas tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Thomas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hollace is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Thomas wants to stand but Hollace is controlling the position.

Hollace throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Thomas works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Thomas is on top in guard.
Thomas tries to free his leg and advance position but Hollace is retaining full guard.
Hollace pulls Thomas in close to prevent any damage.
Thomas stops Hollace from standing up.

Thomas sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hollace's guard.
Hollace controlling the position well.

Hollace manages to escape and get back to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd cheers as Hollace lands an impressive looking overhand right. Thomas doesn't seem phased though.
Nice uppercut there from Hollace.
Hollace scores with a jab. Thomas acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A punch lands to the side of Thomas 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Thomas misses with the combination.
Thomas will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronan Hollace dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Thomas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hollace's guard.
Hollace has control of Thomas's left arm, preventing Thomas from doing any damage.
Thomas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Hollace manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Thomas manages to get himself to full guard.
Ronan Hollace has got the better of the ground game so far.

Thomas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ronan Hollace was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hollace lands with a straight right. Thomas didn't see that one coming.
Thomas takes a swing at Hollace's ribcage but misses.
Hollace keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Hollace lands a nice looking body shot.

Thomas bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hollace takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Hollace holds on to Thomas's head and controls the position momentarily.

Hollace is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Hollace has one foot on Thomas's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Thomas fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hollace to the ground. Thomas is now in Hollace's guard.

Hollace is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Hollace lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Thomas backwards.
Thomas's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Thomas tries to circle away but Hollace has him pinned against the cage.

Hollace shoots in but Thomas avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Hollace gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Hollace won't let him.

Thomas stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hollace swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Thomas looking to sit in guard and control but Hollace gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Thomas will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Thomas is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Thomas throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hollace was covering up waiting for the punch and Thomas finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hollace is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Thomas wants to pass the guard but Hollace is keeping the position.

Thomas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Hollace manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Hollace wants to sweep but no luck.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ronan Hollace wasn't active enough on the ground.
Thomas misses with a low kick as Hollace jumps back.
Thomas needs to keep his hands up - Hollace had a free shot at his head there.
Thomas misses with a two punch combination.
Thomas takes a jab right on the kisser.
Paul Thomas is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hollace dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Hollace lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Thomas gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Ronan Hollace comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hollace has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
