PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Knoe Namm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vijur Sabian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Knoe Namm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vijur Sabian!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big left from Namm misses.
Namm throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Sabian gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Sabian lands a body punch.
The referee calls for Sabian to work.
Namm tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sabian is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Sabian lands a right hand.
Namm wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Namm fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Namm wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knoe Namm. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Namm wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Sabian works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Namm has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sabian can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sabian seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Namm is trying to keep Sabian in close.
Namm can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sabian controls the pace.

Namm working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sabian doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sabian manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Namm looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sabian is one step ahead there.

Sabian controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
I looks like Sabian might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sabian darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Namm is trying to maintain the position but Sabian is very close to passing his half guard.
Sabian content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Namm tries to roll over but Sabian keeps him under control.
Sabian slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vijur Sabian dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Namm with a lazy takedown attempt

so Sabian counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Sabian seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Namm looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Sabian puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Sabian is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Namm is trying to control but Sabian passes into side control!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Namm sneaks back into half guard.

Sabian is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Namm!
Namm is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Namm is trying to reverse the position but instead Sabian has taken his back - oops!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
What can Namm do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Sabian takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Namm is in all sorts of trouble here.

Sabian prevents Namm from improving his position.
Sabian is pressing down on Namm's thigh, looking to free his foot. Namm is holding on for now.
Vijur Sabian has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sabian tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Namm gets full guard.
Namm can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sabian controls the pace.

Namm throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sabian escapes and throws Namm's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Namm is looking for a sweep.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vijur Sabian showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Namm's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Sabian connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Namm misses with a double jab

and Sabian counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Namm!
Sabian can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Namm is looking to escape.
Namm tries to hold on but Sabian pushes him away.
Namm is in all sorts of trouble here.
Namm bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Namm drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sabian manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Namm has Sabian in his guard.
Namm is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sabian takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Namm is working hard here to advance position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Namm sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sabian in particular looking to stall.
Namm trying to hold on to Sabian's head to control him but Sabian postures up.
Namm slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Namm looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sabian slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Let's hope that Sabian has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Namm trying to keep a closed guard but Sabian is proving a slippery customer.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Namm is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Namm has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Sabian is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Namm.
Namm is trying to get back to half guard.
Namm is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Sabian is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Knoe Namm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Namm is trying desperately to improve position.

Vijur Sabian comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sabian has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
