Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rodniel Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Thompson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romero kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Kanye West - Amazing. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rodniel Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jon Thompson!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romero swings for the body but Thompson moves out of range.
Romero misses with a double jab
and Thompson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Romero has closed the distance and engaged Thompson in a clinch.
Thompson tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Thompson is trying to pull guard but Romero has him pressed against the cage.

Romero wants the takedown. Thompson is fighting it off but Romero persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Thompson's guard against the cage.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Romero avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Thompson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Romero can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Romero tries to stand but Thompson is controlling from the bottom.

Thompson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Romero doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Romero manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Romero got a little sloppy there for a moment and Thompson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Romero has managed to get both his arms back between Thompson's legs - danger averted.

Romero stands and steps away. Thompson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Romero throws a right and a left that Thompson avoids nicely.

Thompson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Romero controls the pace.

Thompson throws a jab but it's blocked by Romero.

Romero manages to break the clinch.

Thompson tries to pull guard but Romero holds him up against the cage and eventually Thompson drops back down to his feet.

Thompson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Romero gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Oh but Thompson is tightening it up a little... Romero has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Romero reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Romero taps out! Nice BJJ there by Thompson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Jon Thompson!
As Jon Thompson got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: STT BABY NEW WELTERWEIGHT CHAMP!!'.
