The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Fedorov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dempsey postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Fedorov has his foot on Dempsey's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dempsey works his way back into a safe position though.
Dempsey slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Fedorov had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Dempsey is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Fedorov Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Dempsey's back instead.

Dempsey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fedorov's guard.

Dempsey takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Fedorov has hold of Dempsey's hands but Dempsey slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Dempsey wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fedorov keeps working.

Dempsey throws and elbow that misses. Fedorov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Dempsey's guard. Nice move by Fedorov!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dempsey can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
