Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Cantwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kevin Beavis!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beavis dives in and grabs Cantwell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cantwell pushes down on Beavis's head and hops out.

Beavis fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Cantwell to the ground. Beavis is now in Cantwell's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Beavis is looking to advance position but Cantwell has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Beavis wants to try and get back to his feet.
Cantwell prevents Beavis from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cantwell lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Beavis is squirming around, avoiding Cantwell's attempts to control the action.
Cantwell controlling the pace for now.

Cantwell trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Beavis is in a horrible position here. Cantwell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Cantwell looking for a guillotine from mount but Beavis is having none of it.
Cantwell lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.


It looks like Kevin Beavis has been cut.

Cantwell is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Cantwell prevents Beavis from getting the reversal.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cantwell is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Beavis to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Beavis shrugs it off.
Cantwell can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Beavis is looking to escape.

Cantwell has control of Beavis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Beavis regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cantwell is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Beavis can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Cantwell breaks from Beavis's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Cantwell trying to control but Beavis is having none of it.
Beavis is looking to improve his position but Cantwell isn't that keen on the idea.

Cantwell jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Beavis manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Beavis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Cantwell.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Beavis can't do much from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Kevin Beavis's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Beavis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cantwell, pushing him back against the cage.
Cantwell prevents the takedown attempt.
Cantwell is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Beavis pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Beavis is trying to pull guard but Cantwell has him pressed against the cage.
Beavis is pressed up against the cage. Cantwell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Beavis down to the mat. Beavis avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Cantwell has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Cantwell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cantwell goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Beavis has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cantwell but great work by Beavis.

Beavis is trying to control the action in half guard but Cantwell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Cantwell is staying active underneath Beavis, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Cantwell is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Beavis is working for a kimura but Cantwell is defending it quite comfortably.
Beavis not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Cantwell tries to get to full guard but Beavis has control of the leg.
Cantwell is refusing to be controlled, as Beavis sits in half guard.

Beavis tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Cantwell is trying to get back to full guard.
Beavis seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Cantwell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Cantwell moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Cantwell has his feet on Beavis's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Cantwell keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Steve Cantwell will probably get the nod.

Beavis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Cantwell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Cantwell is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Beavis is just riding it out for now. Cantwell eventually gives up the hold.

Cantwell wants to control from the top but Beavis keeps moving.
Cantwell stands and throws Beavis's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Beavis manages to get back to half guard.
Beavis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Cantwell scores with a couple of nice shots.
Beavis wants to control but Cantwell is keeping busy.

Cantwell tries to pass the half guard into mount. Beavis knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Cantwell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Beavis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Beavis is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cantwell is looking to take a break and control but Beavis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Steve Cantwell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Steve Cantwell has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Cantwell shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Cantwell working over Beavis with some ground and pound. Beavis looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Cantwell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Beavis swats away the attempt to clinch by Cantwell.
Cantwell misses with a takedown attempt - Beavis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cantwell.

Beavis gets caught napping as Cantwell dives in and scores a takedown. Beavis manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Beavis wants to sweep here but Cantwell controlling him for the moment.
Beavis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cantwell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beavis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Steve Cantwell showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cantwell, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
