PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Francis Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Lister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Francis Drake!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Lister!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Sam Margolis and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lister manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Drake tries to clinch there but Lister circles away.

Drake closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Lister's guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Lister bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Drake's guard.
Lister postures up in Drake's guard and throws a big left but Drake blocks it.
Drake throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Drake seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Drake is looking for a triangle here but Lister uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Lister trying to control the action but Drake is working from the bottom.
Drake is pushing Lister's head away, looking to escape. Lister manages to hold on to the position though.

Lister wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drake keeps working.
Lister misses with the ground and pound.

Lister wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Drake, who protects the arm well.
Drake wants to control but Lister postures up.

Lister is trying to get an arm triangle but Drake is defending well.
Drake can't do much from the bottom here.
Lister lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Drake down.

Drake is trying to get back to half guard.
Drake is working hard here to advance position.
Lister trying to control the action but Drake is working from the bottom.
Lister avoids the strikes from the bottom by Drake.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lister is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Drake has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lister looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Drake is avoiding damage well.

Drake tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lister wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lister wants to lay and pray for a moment but Drake keeps working.
Lister has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Drake tries to buck Lister off but Lister is having none of it.

Lister creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Drake sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Lister looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Drake manages to get back to half guard.
Drake tries to get to full guard but Lister has control of the leg.
Drake wants to control but Lister is keeping busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lister thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Drake's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Francis Drake will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Drake checks a low kick from Lister.

Lister shoots in and bounces Drake off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Drake looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Lister won't allow Drake to get back to his feet.
Lister trying to control but Drake is working from the bottom.

Lister pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Drake is keeping the position for now.
Drake looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lister is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drake throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Drake keeping full guard, as Lister tries to pass.
Drake throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Drake manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Lister wants to try and get back to his feet.
Drake is looking to work his way around to Lister's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Drake tries to control but Lister wriggling away.

Drake is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Lister has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Lister!

Drake is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Lister stopping the sweep attempt from Drake.

Drake escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lister gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lister wants to pass the guard but Drake is keeping the position.

Drake keeping moving, preventing Lister from controlling successfully.
Lister makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Drake working for submissions but it's allowed Lister to get to half guard.
Drake flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Lister is trying to control. Drake wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Lister is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Drake gets back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Drake tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Drake throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Drake keeping moving, preventing Lister from controlling successfully.

Drake working for a triangle but Lister defends it easily.
Drake pulls Lister in close to prevent any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Drake is trying to control the position but Lister postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Francis Drake will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Lister looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Lister wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Drake is working Lister over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lister is adopting a defensive guard.
Drake wants to control from the top but Lister keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Lister avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Drake keeps Lister at a distance using the push kick.

Drake tries to clinch but Lister moves away
and Lister counters with a left to the body.

and Lister counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Lister finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Drake tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lister swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Lister swats away the attempt to clinch by Drake.
Lister throws a leg kick that is checked

and Drake decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lister's guard.

Lister had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Drake defends it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Drake is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Drake working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Drake pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lister is keeping the position for now.
Drake stays in close to Lister's body and controls the position.
Francis Drake is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Drake has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
