Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jeffrey Lui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Straw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeffrey Lui!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eli Straw!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lui shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Straw is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Straw tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Lui wants to control from the top but Straw keeps moving.
Straw wants to sweep but no luck.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Straw can do anything to dispel that myth.

Straw is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Lui decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Straw's guard.
Lui passes Straw's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Straw trying to hold on to Lui's head to control him but Lui postures up.
Straw wants to improve his position but Lui is controlling well.
Lui wants to get back to his feet.
Lui looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Straw with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Straw controlling the position well.
Lui prevents Straw from improving his position.
Lui tries to pass to full mount but Straw defends it.
Lui looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Straw with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Lui has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Straw is staying active underneath Lui, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Straw.
Straw connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lui's hands.
Lui connects with a crisp jab.
Lui fails to land the takedown.
Lui has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Lui there as he acknowledges the shot.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lui misses with a takedown attempt - Straw sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeffrey Lui. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Straw shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lui but Lui pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Lui closes this distance looking for a takedown but Straw circles away.
Lui drops Straw with a beautiful combination! Straw stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Lui is looking for the KO!


Straw is rocked!


It looks like Eli Straw has been cut.
Lui lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Straw falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jeffrey Lui!
