Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nick Poppy!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jeffrey Ramirez!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poppy throws out a leg kick but Ramirez moves out of range and Poppy only half commits.
Poppy throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Poppy moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Poppy throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Poppy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Ramirez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Poppy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ramirez keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poppy is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ramirez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Poppy thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Poppy tries to advance to mount but Ramirez denies him.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Poppy is trying to get an arm triangle but Ramirez is defending well.

Poppy has hold of Ramirez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Ramirez seems comfortable defending it but Poppy has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Ramirez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Ramirez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Poppy couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nick Poppy!
Nick Poppy retains his heavyweight title!
