The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lard is trying hard to land a takedown here. Yalaa sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Yalaa tries to bum rush Lard with a series of wild strikes but Lard uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bubba Lard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lard has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Yalaa avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Yalaa is looking to control Lard's arms but Lard gets an underhook and turns him. Now Yalaa has his back to the cage.

Lard wants the takedown. Yalaa is fighting it off but Lard persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Yalaa's guard against the cage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Yalaa wants to get back to his feet but Lard is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lard accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Yalaa is looking to stand up but Lard isn't so interested in that idea.
Lard with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lard prevents Yalaa from getting back to his feet.
Lard working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lard throwing strikes from guard but Yalaa blocks nicely.
Lard is looking to work some ground and pound but Yalaa has wrist control.
Yalaa is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Lard is controlling him.

Maybe Yalaa would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much.

Lard drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Yalaa gets the underhooks and prevents it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Akmed Yalaa.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Yalaa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
