Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jan Olov Hermansson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quinton Ellis!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ellis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hermansson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
You can see the frustration on Hermansson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hermansson is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Hermansson is not content to let Ellis control the position.

Ellis wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hermansson, who protects the arm well.
Hermansson looking for a sweep but Ellis has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Ellis prevents Hermansson from getting the reversal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ellis has hold of Hermansson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Hermansson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hermansson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ellis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Hermansson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ellis pulls his head out easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jan Olov Hermansson will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ellis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hermansson swivels and escapes.
Ellis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Hermansson throws out the jab.
Hermansson throws a body punch but Ellis moves out of range.
Hermansson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Hermansson stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
A combination from Hermansson does no damage.
Hermansson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Ellis misses with a takedown attempt - Hermansson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Jan Olov Hermansson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Quinton Ellis.
Hermansson stuffs the takedown attempt from Ellis. Ellis gets slowly back to his feet.
Ellis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hermansson avoids it really well and circles away.
Hermansson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ellis.

Hermansson lands a lovely overhand right.
Hermansson lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Ellis looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Ellis bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Hermansson wants to control but Ellis postures up.

Quinton Ellis has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ellis tries to control but Hermansson wriggling away.
Hermansson tries to reverse the position but Ellis maintains control.

Ellis is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hermansson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hermansson is squirming around, avoiding Ellis's attempts to control the action.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ellis wants to take his opponent's back but Hermansson doesn't allow it.
Ellis takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hermansson sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Ellis in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Hermansson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Ellis!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Quinton Ellis!
Quinton Ellis spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
