PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cy Coe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coe has chosen Insane In The Membrane - Cypress Hill as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Cy Coe was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cy Coe!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coe throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jones scores with a hook.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Coe, right into the meat.
A jab from Jones misses.
Cy Coe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A big left from Jones misses.
Jones slips a straight right by Coe.
Coe tries to clinch but Jones moves away
and Coe takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Coe is looking to clinch.
Jones throws a big shot that misses.
Coe looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Coe on his heels. He'll look to pass Coe's guard now, I'm sure.
Jones won't allow Coe to sweep him here.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Coe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Coe is on top in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jones working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Coe.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Coe is controlling him.
Jones has his hands on Coe's head, controlling the position.
Coe is looking to stand up but Jones won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coe postures up in Jones's guard and throws a big left but Jones blocks it.

Jones pushes Coe off and gets back to his feet.
Coe ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Coe misses with a low kick.
Jones moves out of range as Coe strikes.
Jones takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Coe's half guard.
Coe is trying to get back to full guard.
Jones working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones prevents Coe from improving his position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fighters are battling for position here. Coe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Jones advances to half guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.
Coe is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones working Coe over with strikes.
Jones wants to pass to mount but Coe is defending the position.
Coe is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Coe is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Coe with the ground and pound but Jones uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Coe is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Jones breaks the clinch.
Jones throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Jones gets the takedown into side control.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Coe prevents Jones from moving into mount.
Coe is looking to regain half guard here but Jones keeps moving and retains side control.
Jones tries to advance to mount but Coe denies him.
Coe gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Coe is looking to escape.
Coe gets full guard.
Coe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Jones keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Coe's head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Coe is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Coe trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Paul Jones will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Coe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jones slips under a jab.
Coe scores with a jab. Jones acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


It looks like Paul Jones has been cut.
Coe throws a half hearted mid kick.
Coe walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Jones checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Coe connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Coe misses with a head kick.
Coe fails with the takedown
and Coe takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Coe wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Coe will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Coe feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Joness jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Jones lands with an overhand left.
Coe uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Jones scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Coe doesn't seem bothered though.
A jab from Jones finds it's way through Coe's defenses.
Sloppy strikes from Coe. Those never looked like landing.
Jones moves out of range of the body kick from Coe.
Jones lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Coe at a distance.
Coe motions for Jones to come forward. Coe throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Coe scores with a nice right hand.
Coe feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Jones's calf.
Coe tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Jones manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Jones avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Coe misses with a hook
and Jones counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Jones misses the jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones trying to control the position but Coe is working away.
Coe tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Paul Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coe is pushing Jones's head away, looking to escape. Jones manages to hold on to the position though.
Coe on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Jones is chipping away with strikes.
Jones works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
A big shot lands for Jones! That's hurt Coe! Will he recover? Jones fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Jones!
In his post fight interview, Paul Jones started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
