PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alex Bourne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Roode (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex Bourne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bobby Roode!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bourne closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Roode is looking to reverse the position.
Bourne lands a few punches from side control.
Roode tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bourne wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Roode takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Roode tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Roode gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Roode trying to control but Bourne postures up.
Roode wants to improve his position but Bourne is controlling well.
Bourne content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Roode is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bourne content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Bourne wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Roode tries for a takedown but Bourne circles away easily

and Bourne counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Bourne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roode swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Roode manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Bourne gets back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bourne is trying to stand back up but Roode is controlling him
Bourne is looking to improve his position.
Roode thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Bourne's head.
Bourne is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bourne throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Bourne controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

Roode seems to be working for a kimura but Bourne defends the submission attempt.

Roode is trying to work for a kimura but Bourne is defending well.

Roode wants to control but Bourne is keeping him busy.
Bourne missing with punches from the bottom.
Bourne makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bourne.
Bourne keeping moving, preventing Roode from controlling successfully.
Bourne controls Roode momentarily but Roode frees himself.
Roode looking to sit in guard and control but Bourne gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Bourne has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Roode throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Bourne looking to pass the guard.
Bourne wants to stand but Roode is controlling his posture from full guard.

Roode is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Bourne got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roode has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bourne has managed to get both his arms back between Roode's legs - danger averted.
Roode has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Bourne has passed into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alex Bourne dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Roode tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A good leg kick by Bourne.

Bourne looking to score a takedown here. Roode is defending well but Bourne drives through and ends up in Roode's guard.
Bourne content to stall in guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roode has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Bourne has passed into side control.
Roode is trying to improve his position.
Roode gets back to half guard.
Roode makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Roode.

Roode throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bourne escapes and throws Roode's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Roode tries to bench press Bourne off him but Bourne keeps the position.
Roode is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bourne's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Bourne is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Bourne passes to side control.
Roode gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Roode looking for submissions off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Roode gets full guard.
Roode is breathing heavily.

Roode has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bourne can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bourne gets to his feet - Roode follows without any prompting.

Bourne gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

An uppercut to the body lands inside from Bourne.

Bourne pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Roode slips under a jab.

Roode gets tackled into the cage by Bourne. Bourne maintains the clinch.

Bourne lands a takedown into guard.
Alex Bourne overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roode looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bourne controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Roode looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bourne is one step ahead there.
Bourne with a flurry of punches that miss.
Roode wants to sweep but no luck.
Bourne is in close to Roode's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Roode is looking to sinch up a triangle. Bourne throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Roode's body to avoid the submission. Roode has instead reached around Bourne's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Roode arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Bobby Roode!
