The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penitent doesn't manage to clinch there - Gunther circles away.
Penitent fails with an attempt to clinch.

Gunther throws a sloppy head kick and Penitent moves out of range easily.

Penitent tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Gunther just stands there and leans against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gunther throws a hook but Penitent avoids it easily.

Todd Gunther showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Penitent ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Penitent no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Gunther avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Penitent controls Gunther momentarily but Gunther frees himself.
Gunther drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gunther jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Penitent has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gunther can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gunther advances to half guard.
Penitent regains full guard. Nicely done.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gunther is looking to work some ground and pound but Penitent has wrist control.

Gunther wants to control from the top but Penitent keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gunther is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Penitent escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gunther gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Penitent bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gunther's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gunther can't keep his opponent in guard - Penitent advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gunther is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Penitent wants to free his trapped foot but Gunther is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Lady Penitent has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
