Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Smith as Maxwell shoots in.

Maxwell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Smith is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Maxwell to the mat. Maxwell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Maxwell is working for an americana but Smith has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Maxwell was thinking about the submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Maxwell is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smith is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smith has escaped and now he's on top!
Maxwell lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!

Maxwell jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Maxwell is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smith knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Maxwell swings around for an armbar but Smith sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Maxwell's guard.

Maxwell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Maxwell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Smith's guard.

Maxwell misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Maxwell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Smith doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Smith manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Maxwell had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smith is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Maxwell Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smith's back instead.
Smith is breathing heavily.

Maxwell has got his arm under Smith's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Smith has spun round into Maxwell's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Maxwell cracks Smith with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Smith from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.

Maxwell is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Smith defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
