PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruben De La Vega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fitry Qushairy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Qushairy has chosen Natural Born Killer as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ruben De La Vega!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fitry Qushairy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Hugh Johnson and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
De La Vega misses the jab.
De La Vega looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
That kick from Qushairy tenderised De La Vega's leg. De La Vega is trying to keep his angry face on.
The fighters circling - De La Vega throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
De La Vega closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Qushairy tries for a takedown but De La Vega sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Qushairy bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Qushairy is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in De La Vega's half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Qushairy in particular looking to stall.

Qushairy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Qushairy content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Qushairy seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but De La Vega does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Qushairy throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Qushairy moves into full mount! De La Vega won't be happy about that!

Qushairy is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But De La Vega has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from De La Vega!

De La Vega trying to control but Qushairy is working from the bottom.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
De La Vega passes Qushairy's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Qushairy controlling the position well.
Qushairy avoiding damage under a succession of punches from De La Vega.
De La Vega slips a nice elbow through Qushairy's hands, connecting with Qushairy's forehead.

De La Vega seems to be looking for submissions.
Qushairy tries to get to full guard but De La Vega has control of the leg.
Qushairy keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
De La Vega is trying to control. Qushairy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Qushairy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with De La Vega. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ruben De La Vega has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
De La Vega misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fitry Qushairy dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


De La Vega fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Qushairy avoids it really well and circles away.

Qushairy dives in and scores a takedown into De La Vega's guard.

Qushairy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! De La Vega is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Qushairy, into his guard.

Qushairy pushes a forearm under De La Vega's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, De La Vega is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Fitry Qushairy!
An out of breath Fitry Qushairy thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
