Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jose Aldo !
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotto tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Aldo was well out of range. Poor timing from Cotto.
Cotto tries to close the distance and clinch but Aldo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Aldo takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Cotto scores with a jab to the body.
Cotto looks to throw the jab but Aldo is out of range.
Aldo shoots in but Cotto avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Aldo slips a jab and a cross from Cotto.
Aldo fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Cotto tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aldo paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cotto closes the distance and clinches.
Cotto scores with a nice hook to the head.

Cotto breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cotto looks to throw the jab but Aldo is out of range.
Cotto bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Aldo 's head backwards.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Aldo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Cotto circles away.
Miguel Cotto has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Aldo .
Aldo on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Cotto scores with a nice right hand.

Aldo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cotto was covering up waiting for the punch and Aldo finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cotto wants to stand and escape but Aldo is having none of it.
Aldo landing with the ground and pound.
Aldo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Cotto wants to get back to his feet but Aldo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cotto keeping moving, preventing Aldo from controlling successfully.
Aldo with a flurry of punches that miss.
Cotto has momentary wrist control but Aldo slips an elbow through the middle.
Aldo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Aldo pushes down on Cotto's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Cotto knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Aldo on the ground.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cotto is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Aldo is looking for a kimura here.

Aldo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Aldo is looking for a kimura but Cotto is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Aldo to get the leverage.

Aldo wants to work for an arm triangle but Cotto is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Aldo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Cotto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Aldo .
Cotto on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cotto tries to get out of the position.
Aldo is keen to just control but Cotto is a slippery customer.

Cotto kicks Aldo off and gets back to his feet.
Aldo shoots in for a takedown but Cotto shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Cotto works the jab nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cotto misses with a series of wild punches.
Cotto defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Aldo .
Cotto cracks Aldo with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Aldo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Cotto lands a right hook to the body.
Aldo drops his hands momentarily and Cotto takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.


Aldo is rocked!

Cotto drives through and clinches with Aldo against the cage.
Aldo is still on wobbly legs! Can Cotto finish him?
Cotto has the Thai clinch. He lands a big knee to the head that stumbles Aldo - he's in trouble! Another big knee to the head from Cotto, and another! Aldo is out on his feet - the ref jumps in to save him and ends the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Knees). Miguel Cotto!
