PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cole Manuel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Algenir Aguiar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cole Manuel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Algenir Aguiar!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Aguiar both land. Nice combination.
Aguiar misses with a hook. Manuel ducked under it nicely.
Horrible takedown by Aguiar or perhaps it was just good defense by Manuel which made him look bad.
Manuel is trying hard to land a takedown here. Aguiar sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Aguiar lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Manuel at a distance.

The fight stays on the outside here - Manuel looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Manuel counters with a shoot takedown. Aguiar fights it but they end up in guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Aguiar tries for a takedown but Manuel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Cole Manuel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Algenir Aguiar.
Aguiar thows a body shot but no joy.
Aguiar circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Manuel counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Manuel.
Manuel tries to pull guard but Aguiar won't allow it.

Aguiar drops down looking for an ankle pick but Manuel pulls his leg out and moves away.
Manuel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Aguiar fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Aguiar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Manuel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Aguiar is in Manuel's guard.
Aguiar wants to pass the guard but Manuel is keeping the position.
Manuel avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Aguiar postures up in Manuel's guard and throws a big left but Manuel blocks it.
Aguiar looking to sit in guard and control but Manuel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aguiar bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Manuel's guard.
Manuel has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Aguiar tries to free his leg and advance position but Manuel is retaining full guard.
Manuel can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Aguiar controls the pace.
Manuel looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Aguiar slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Manuel is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Aguiar tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Aguiar fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Aguiar lands some shots froms side control.
Aguiar throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Aguiar tries to score with some ground and pound. Manuel controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Aguiar postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A lull in the action here as Aguiar stalls from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Excellent takedown into side control there by Aguiar.
Manuel manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Aguiar sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Manuel defending well though.
Aguiar thows a huge punch but Manuel dodges it nicely.

Aguiar has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Manuel has his hands clasped together around Aguiar's back. He's all about the action.

Aguiar is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Manuel defends it well.
Manuel keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Aguiar is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Manuel sees it coming and defends easily.

Aguiar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Aguiar looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Manuel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Aguiar is working away from the top position though.

Aguiar is stalling here. Manuel is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Aguiar seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Manuel has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Aguiar manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Aguiar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Manuel is staying active underneath Aguiar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Aguiar lands a nice short elbow.
Aguiar wants to control but Manuel is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Aguiar seems to be looking for submissions.
Aguiar is looking to take a break and control but Manuel is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Algenir Aguiar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Manuel is in trouble now - Aguiar has advanced to mount!

Algenir Aguiar seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
