PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Omar Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marko Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Omar Mendes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marko Khan!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendes but Mendes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mendes works the jab nicely.
Khan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mendes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mendes feints a jab promting Khan to slip. Mendes then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Khan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Khan fails to land the takedown.
Omar Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marko Khan.
Khan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mendes tries to avoid it but Khan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mendes to the ground. Mendes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mendes pushes Khan away with a front kick.
Khan swings for the body but Mendes moves out of range.
Marko Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khan darts in and clinches Mendes up against the cage.
Khan wants a takedown but no success here.

Mendes breaks from the clinch.
Mendes stalks Khan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Khan's face. Khan staggers backwards, shaken.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A combination from Khan does no damage.
Mendes lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Khan circles away quickly and effectively.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Khan tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mendes swivels and escapes.
Khan avoids a punch combination nicely.
Khan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendes but Mendes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mendes feints a jab promting Khan to slip. Mendes then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Khan slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Mendes tries to bum rush Khan with a series of wild strikes but Khan uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mendes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Mendes connects with the punch.
Khan tries to clinch
and Mendes counters with a stiff right hand.
Khan walks into a stiff left hand from Mendes.
Mendes lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Khan shoots for a takedown but Mendes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mendes throws a one two combo.


Khan is rocked!
Khan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Khan is still on wobbly legs! Can Mendes finish him?
Khan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Khan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Mendes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Khan.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Khan tries to close the distance and clinch but Mendes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Khan seems to have recovered his senses.
Mendes throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Khan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mendes blocks a jab.
Mendes showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Khan.
Mendes scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mendes jabs Khan to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Khan fails to land the takedown.
Khan swinging wildly here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendes throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Khan.
Khan shoots in but Mendes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mendes misses with a two punch combination.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Khan.
Khan looks gassed!
Mendes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Mendes moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Khan takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Khan shoots in looking for a takedown. Mendes tries to sprawl out of it but Khan keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mendes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Khan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Khan falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mendes counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Khan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Mendes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Khan takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Khan is sent reeling backwards by a solid uppercut. He barely regains his balance and Mendes moves in for the kill throwing a continuous barrage of punches that force the ref to step in.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Omar Mendes!
Omar Mendes seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
