PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Broyles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Waleed Malik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malik has chosen Can't Be Touched as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Broyles tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Malik paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Malik throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Broyles.
Malik throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Waleed Malik seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Malik lands a nice leg kick that just misses Broyles's sensitive parts.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Broyles shoots in for a double leg but Malik sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Malik throws a right hand that Broyles ducks under and follows up with a left that Broyles also avoids with ease.
Malik comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Malik looks to score with a jab to the body but Broyles is just out of range.

Malik throws a hook to the side of Broyles's head but Broyles sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Broyles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Malik's waist but Malik gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Broyles off to one side.

This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Broyles. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Malik pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Broyles shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Malik manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Broyles has gone for a leg lock! Malik slips out almost immediately though and dives into Broyles's guard.
Malik is looking to stand up but Broyles won't let him.

Malik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Broyles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Malik has managed to get both his arms back between Broyles's legs - danger averted.
Broyles is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Broyles is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Malik is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Malik wants to get up but he can't break Broyles's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A very excited looking Scott Broyles rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
