PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Geezer Lynnot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvaro Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Geezer Lynnot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alvaro Silva!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Eliza Hachem and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Silva stops Lynnot from standing up.
Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Lynnot is retaining full guard.

Silva decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lynnot, up you get!

Silva darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Silva seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Lynnot does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Lynnot trying to control but Silva postures up.
Lynnot won't allow Silva to pass to mount.

Silva is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lynnot doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Silva.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lynnot taking some punishment here, with Silva in his half guard.

Well, if Silva is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Lynnot is defending against the submission attempts here by Silva.
Silva is taking a breather. Lynnot says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Lynnot is not content to let Silva control the position.

Lynnot looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Silva perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Silva wants to control but Lynnot is keeping him busy.
Silva tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lynnot controls his leg.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Alvaro Silva has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Lynnot shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense.
Lynnot is breathing heavily.

Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lynnot's guard.
Silva is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Lynnot isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Silva stacks Lynnot on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Silva!
Lynnot tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it.
Lynnot looking for a sweep but Silva has passed into full mount! Oh no!

Silva is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lynnot to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lynnot shrugs it off.
Lynnot could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Silva can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lynnot is looking to escape.
Lynnot is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Silva trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Silva controlling his opponent.

Silva is standing up, even though he is in mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Silva rushes Lynnot and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Lynnot has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Silva avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alvaro Silva dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Silva scores a nice knee to the body.

Silva pulls guard effortlessly.
Lynnot looking to pass the guard.
Lynnot won't allow Silva to sweep him here.
Silva is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Silva looking for a sweep. Not yet Silva, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Lynnot from controlling successfully.
Silva wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lynnot shoots in and drives through. Silva sprawls well.

Lynnot tries to keep at a distance but Silva has taken the fight into the clinch.

Silva has clasped his hands together around Lynnot's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Lynnot might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Silva lands a decent elbow from side control.

Silva stands up and beckons Lynnot to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Silva.
Lynnot tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Silva has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Silva tries to clinch but Lynnot moves out of range.
Alvaro Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Silva clinches up against the cage.
Lynnot wants to stall.

Silva pulls Lynnot into guard.
Lynnot throws a strike but Silva rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Silva trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Silva forces his way into half guard.
Lynnot is looking to escape.
Lynnot tries to roll over but Silva keeps him under control.
Silva passes to side control.
A lull in the action here as Silva stalls from top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Silva stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Lynnot gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Silva to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Silva drops back looking for a leg! Lynnot is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lynnot manages to kick Silva off! Silva jumps back into Lynnot's guard.
Silva has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Lynnot looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Silva has picked Lynnot up and slammed him! Lynnot can't keep hold of the triangle and Silva manages to pass to side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alvaro Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Silva moves into the clinch.
Silva lands an elbow inside.

Silva jumps guard.
Alvaro Silva has got the better of the ground game so far.
Lynnot prevents Silva from getting back to his feet.
Lynnot is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Silva scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Silva is looking to clinch but Lynnot is avoiding it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lynnot fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Silva bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Silva working away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lynnot is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Silva asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Silva decides to stand back up. Silva steps back and let's Lynnot get back to his feet.

Silva scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Silva stands up.

Silva instigates a clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Silva lands a takedown into guard.

Lynnot is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Silva defends well.
Lynnot trying to keep a closed guard but Silva is proving a slippery customer.

Silva gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Silva connects with a crisp jab.

Silva shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lynnot keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Lynnot is looking to control Silva's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lynnot avoid being mounted?
Lynnot is looking to escape.
Lynnot is staying active underneath Silva, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Silva is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Lynnot defends it well.
Lynnot is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Alvaro Silva is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Lynnot has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Silva is working away from the top position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva is controlling the pace.

Alvaro Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
