PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Eastman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Wotton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Henry Wotton was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, James Eastman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Henry Wotton!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Eastman misses with a body kick.
Wotton shoots in and drives through. Eastman sprawls well.

Wotton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Eastman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Eastman can't do much from the bottom here.

Wotton thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Eastman sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Eastman regains full guard. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Eastman is trying to control the position but Wotton postures up.
Wotton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Eastman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Eastman wants to sweep but no luck.
Eastman has his hands on Wotton's head, controlling the position.
Eastman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eastman throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Wotton stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Eastman wants to clinch.

Eastman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Eastman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wotton knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Eastman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wotton does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Eastman content to control rather than advance.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James Eastman just wasn't active enough.

and Wotton counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Eastman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wotton won't be happy with that.

Eastman fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Wotton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Eastman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Wotton moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
James Eastman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wotton cracks Eastman with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Eastman closes the distance and clinches up with Wotton, looking for a takedown. Eastman pushes Wotton against the cage but Wotton circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Wotton is looking to break free of the clinch but Eastman has double underhooks.
Wotton wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Eastman has Wotton pressed against the cage, preventing Wotton from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Eastman struggles to land a body shot inside as Wotton controls his hands.

We're going to have a standup here because James Eastman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

so Wotton counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Eastman moves away from the strike by Wotton.

A decent looking cross lands there for Wotton.

Eastman is trying to control the action in half guard but Wotton is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

James Eastman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

A close third round but Henry Wotton just about did enough to take it.
That's time! Eastman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Wotton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Eastman tries to avoid it but Wotton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Eastman to the ground. Eastman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Eastman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wotton on his heels. He'll look to pass Wotton's guard now, I'm sure.

Wotton has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Eastman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Wotton.

Wotton is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Eastman gets his way!
