PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shang Chi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott has chosen Bang - By Barry Scott as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Shang Chi has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Shang Chi seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shang Chi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Scott!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Scott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chi to the ground. Scott is now in Chi's guard.
Scott in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Chi managing to control the position.
Scott keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chi's head.
Chi will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Chi is trying to control the position but Scott postures up.
Chi wants to sweep here but Scott controlling him for the moment.
Scott wants to control from the top but Chi keeps moving.

Scott working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Scott content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Scott cracks Chi with a solid left hand.
Scott stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chi has his hands on Scott's head, controlling the position.
Scott engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Chi throws a leg kick but Scott moved away.

Scott rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Chi counter with a right hand.
Chi comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Shang Chi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Scott misses with a looping right.
Scott lands a glancing blow to the side of Chi's head.
Scott looks to clinch
and Chi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.


It looks like Barry Scott has been cut.
Chi misses with a straight right.
Chi tries to close the distance and clinch but Scott swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shang Chi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott slips a jab from Chi.
Chi connects with a leg kick. Scott looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Scott is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Chi.
Chi throws a hook but Scott avoids it easily.

Chi throws a low kick but it's checked well by Scott.
Chi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Scott.
Chi feints and then cracks Scott's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Scott down.
Chi looks to land a left hand but Scott moved out of range nicely.
Scott moves away from the strike by Chi.
Scott with a nice cross.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Chi throws a chopping leg kick but Scott manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Scott turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Chi lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Chi throws a front kick aimed at Scott's knee but Scott avoids it well.
Scott takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Chi misses the jab.
Chi looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Chi lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Chi, right into the meat.
Chi is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Scott lands a leg kick that knocks Chi off balance momentarily.
Chi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Scott.
Scott throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Chi sees it coming and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chi.
A slapping leg kick lands for Scott.
Scott looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Chi scores with a jab.
Chi throws a chopping leg kick but Scott manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Chi looks to score with a jab to the body but Scott is just out of range.
Scott takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Scott throws an overhand right that lands on Chi's shoulder, as Chi tries to avoid the shot.
Scott scoring well with a low kick there.
Chi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Chi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Scott.
Chi cracks the inside of Scott's front leg.
Scott with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Chi fails with an attempt to clinch.
Chi tries to clinch but Scott is having none of it.

Chi is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Scott.
Scott is looking to land body kicks.
Chi jabs Scott to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Chi on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Scott shoots in for a takedown but Chi shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Scott smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Scott fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chi avoids it really well and circles away.
Shang Chi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barry Scott.
Chi misses with a two punch combination.
Chi rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Scott connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Scott lands a right hook to the body.
Scott checks the leg kick nicely there.
Chi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Scott.
Scott throws an overhand right that lands on Chi's shoulder, as Chi tries to avoid the shot.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Scott circles away from the clinch attempt.
Chi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Scott manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Chi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Chi thumps Scott with a low kick.
Chi takes one to the chin there.
Chi cracks Scott with a right hand to the side of the head.

Scott misses with a looping right.
Chi sizes up Scott with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Scott throws a body punch but Chi moves out of range.

Chi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Chi misses with the head strike.
Scott wants to take the fight to the mat but Chi manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Scott breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Scott looks to land a right hand but Chi moved out of range.

Scott shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Chi is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Scott thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Scott takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Scott cracks Chi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Chi is wriggling around trying to escape.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Scott cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Barry Scott showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Scott is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Scott staying out of range there.
Scott looks to throw the jab but Chi is out of range.
Scott connects with a jab.
Chi lands with a thumping leg kick.

Nice straight punches there by Chi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Chi.

Scott avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Chi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Scott throws a good cross that connects.
The fight stays on the outside here - Scott looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Scott shoots for a takedown but Chi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Chi lands with an uppercut that bounces Scott off the cage and back into range.

Chi scores with a crisp jab that stopped Scott in his tracks.
Scott cracks Chi with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Chi misses with a hook to the body
and Scott counters with an outside leg kick.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Scott. Chi shrugs it off though.

Scott fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Chi throws a sloppy head kick
and Chi takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Scott walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Chi checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Chi throws a front kick aimed at Scott's knee but Scott avoids it well.

Scott looks for a takedown but Chi sprawls well.
Shang Chi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barry Scott.
Chi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Scott at a distance.

Scott takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Chi moves in looking to clinch but Scott pushes him off.
Chi throws a lazy uppercut

and Scott counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Scott in particular looking to stall.
Scott is stalling here. Chi is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Scott seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Chi has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Chi is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Scott prevents any damage by holding on tight.
