PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dee Stroya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Seasons in the Abyss kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dee Stroya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eddie King!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Stroya.


It looks like Eddie King has been cut.
Stroya fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt King.
King tries to clinch up.
King shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stroya but Stroya pushes him off and we're back to square one.
King takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stroya misses with a right hand

and King counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Stroya looking to hit a scissor sweep but King is one step ahead there.
Stroya is trying to keep King in close.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Dee Stroya just wasn't active enough.

and King counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Stroya has control of King's left arm, preventing King from doing any damage.
King is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Stroya looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Dee Stroya has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Stroya fakes high and swings low for a body shot but King manages to avoid it.
Stroya swings for the body but King moves out of range.
Stroya throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stroya circles away.
Horrible takedown by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Stroya which made him look bad.
Dee Stroya has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie King.
Stroya throws a big shot that misses.

Stroya loads up on a big right hand but King slips the punch.
Stroya scores with a body shot.
King on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Stroya throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stroya throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Dee Stroya seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stroya keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Stroya swings for the body but King moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Stroya punishes King's body with a nice straight punch.
The fighters circle momentarily. Stroya darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Eddie King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stroya misses with a body shot.
Stroya misses with a jab to the body

and King counters by clinching up.

King gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Stroya regains guard.
Stroya controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
Stroya is really struggling to control King but he's trying to hold on to the position.

King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Dee Stroya.
Stroya throws a leg kick but King moved away.
Stroya swings and misses with a hook to the body.
King takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
King takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Stroya misses with a wild combination.
Stroya thuds his right hand into King's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stroya swings away with a body shot that misses
and King counters with a head kick. That will keep Stroya thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and King counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stroya won't be happy with that.

King working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

I wouldn't like to be where Stroya is right now.
The referee asks King politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. King prefers to stall for the moment though.
King trying to control the position but Stroya is working away.

King in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Stroya gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stroya tries to roll over but King keeps him under control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stroya looks to score with a jab to the body but King is just out of range.
Stroya misses the shot to the body.
Stroya throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Stroya swings for the body but King moves out of range.
King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stroya misses with a few strikes there.
King fails with the takedown.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stroya misses with a kick to the body.
King ducks under a wild hook from Stroya.
Stroya tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Stroya misses with a body shot.
King tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Stroya misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stroya thows a leg kick but King checks it

and King holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Stroya.
Stroya tries to work over King's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Stroya scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Stroya is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but King is keeping busy.
Stroya misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Stroya dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
King has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stroya is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Dee Stroya has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddie King.

King looking to stall.
Stroya gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from King.
King looking for a takedown.
Stroya lands with a short shot to the head.
King jumps guard but Stroya turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
King is working for takedown but Stroya is calmly controlling the position for now.

Stroya breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
King shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stroya as he avoids it easily.
Eddie King has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Stroya throws a combination but it was largely blocked by King.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stroya fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
King will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Stroya ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Stroya is looking to chop away at King's legs.
Stroya throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Stroya misses with a wild body shot.
King avoids the body shot from Stroya.
Stroya throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dee Stroya showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Stroya, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
