PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Owen Rose (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Shawn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Rose might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Breaking Benjamin - Bulls On Parade. Shawn has chosen I cant wait as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alex Shawn!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rose shoots in looking for a takedown. Shawn tries to sprawl out of it but Rose keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shawn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Shawn wants to clinch.
Rose fails with a takedown attempt.
Rose throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Shawn fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rose has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Rose circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rose shoots in for a takedown but Shawn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Shawn throws a nice looking combination but Rose bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rose is fighting to break Shawn's control of his arms but Shawn is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Shawn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rose keeps working.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rose has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shawn is working away from the top position though.

Shawn postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Rose to stand up.

Shawn moves in looking to clinch but Rose pushes him off.
Rose keeps the fight on the outside.

and Rose counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rose lands with a punch from half guard.
Shawn keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rose winds up and cracks Shawn with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Rose wants to pass to mount but Shawn is defending the position.

Rose seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shawn does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Rose perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Owen Rose.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Shawn takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
The fight stays on the outside here - Shawn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rose fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Shawn sprawls well initially but Rose persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Shawn leaves Rose with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

That's time! Rose's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Rose stands up over Shawn, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rose connects with a nice short shot to Shawn's temple.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Owen Rose.
I think Rose has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
