Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Japan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joey Japan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Matheus Silva and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Japan tries to bum rush Griffin with a series of wild strikes but Griffin uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Japan scores with a takedown into Griffin's guard.

Griffin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Japan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Griffin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Japan is one step ahead there.

Griffin manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Japan manages to get himself to full guard.
Japan is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Griffin drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Griffin jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Griffin wanted to stand there but Japan had control of the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Japan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Japan is breathing heavily.
Griffin blocks a head kick by Japan.

Japan feints and as Griffin raises his hands in defense, Japan changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Griffin is on top in guard.

Griffin drops back looking for a leg! Japan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Japan manages to kick Griffin off! Griffin jumps back into Japan's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Japan controls Griffin momentarily but Griffin frees himself.

Griffin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Japan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Japan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Japan!
Griffin manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Japan tries to get to full guard but Griffin has control of the leg.
Griffin wants to free his trapped foot but Japan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Griffin is tying to control. Japan wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Japan manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Japan looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Griffin!
Japan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Griffin on the ground.

Joey Japan dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Japan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Japan showed some decent athleticism there.

Japan decides to return to a standing position.
Joey Japan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Griffin has control of an arm but Japan manages to advance to Japan's back!
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Japan here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Japan is hanging on to Griffin's back as he tries to escape.
Griffin tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Japan shoots in and drives through. Griffin sprawls well.

Japan wants to finish this one by submission but Griffin is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Japan.
Japan is landing with some decent strikes but Griffin is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Griffin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Japan cracks Griffin with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Griffin is looking for a sweep. Japan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Japan tries to pass the half guard into mount. Griffin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Japan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Japan wants to control but Griffin is keeping him busy.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Griffin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Japan's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Japan's back!

Griffin is looking for the choke from the back position but Japan is controlling his hands well.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Japan wants to clinch.
Japan pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Griffin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Japan is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Griffin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Japan's back instead.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Japan is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Griffin gets his way!

Griffin looking to break Japan's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Japan remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Griffin will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Joey Japan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Japan breaks Griffin's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Griffin working for a triangle but Japan defends it easily.
Japan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Griffin bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Japan's guard.

Japan is trying to keep Griffin in close.
Griffin stands and throws Japan's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Griffin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Japan keeps working.

Griffin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Japan, who protects the arm well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Griffin stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Japan shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Griffin manages to get to full guard.
Japan trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Griffin keeping busy on the bottom but Japan has passed one foot through into half guard.
Griffin is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Peter Griffin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Japan tries to stand but can't do so whilst Griffin controls his leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peter Griffin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Japan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
