PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ray Zaharn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Weddle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zaharn comes into the arena with 28 Days Later blaring out of the sound system. Weddle is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: remember the name - fort minor. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ray Zaharn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wes Weddle!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zaharn looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Zaharn lands a jab.
Zaharn scores with a jab to the body.
Zaharn lands a lovely overhand right.
Zaharn keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Weddle.
Weddle checks a low kick from Zaharn.
Zaharn takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Weddle closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Weddle working the ground and pound but Zaharn is defending the strikes.
Zaharn is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Weddle off and has taken his back!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Weddle covering up well and avoiding damage.
Zaharn tries to get the hooks in deep but Weddle pushed the leg off.

Zaharn lands strikes to the head.
Will Zaharn go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Zaharn is persistently looking for the submission but Weddle is defending it well.
Weddle is really stuck here.

Zaharn connects with a big shot to the side of Weddle's head.

Zaharn has got his arm under Weddle's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Weddle has spun round into Zaharn's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Weddle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Weddle stands up and waves to Zaharn to follow him.
Zaharn displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Weddle throws out the jab.
No luck for Zaharn with that takedown attempt.
Zaharn lands an overhand right.
Weddle swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Weddle throws a jab when Zaharn was well out of range.
Weddle fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Weddle shoots in for a double leg but Zaharn sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Weddle throws a right hand that Zaharn ducks under and follows up with a left that Zaharn also avoids with ease.
Weddle throws a half hearted mid kick.
Weddle lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Zaharn circles away quickly and effectively.
Zaharn scores with a nice right hand.
Zaharn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Weddle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zaharn tries to avoid it but Weddle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zaharn to the ground. Zaharn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ray Zaharn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wes Weddle.
Weddle tries to close the distance and clinch but Zaharn swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Weddle throws a combination. Zaharn tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Weddle throws a right and a left that both miss.

Zaharn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Weddle to the mat! Weddle manages to get full guard.
Weddle looks gassed!
Zaharn wants to control from the top but Weddle keeps moving.
Zaharn won't allow Weddle to sweep him here.
Weddle wants to stand but Zaharn is controlling the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Zaharn advances to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Weddle is refusing to be controlled, as Zaharn sits in half guard.

Zaharn is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Zaharn drops an elbow to the side of Weddle's head.
Zaharn is pressing down on Weddle's thigh, looking to free his foot. Weddle is holding on for now.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Weddle manages to get to full guard.
Zaharn forces his way into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Zaharn dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Weddle falls off balance throwing a combination
and Zaharn counters with a straight right hand.
Zaharn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Weddle as he avoids it easily.

Weddle fails with the takedown
and Weddle takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Weddle shoots in for a takedown but Zaharn shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Weddle misses with the combination.
Zaharn throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Zaharn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Weddle misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nice defenses there by Zaharn.
Wes Weddle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Weddle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Weddle wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Zaharn, who protects the arm well.
Weddle is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zaharn manages to get back to half guard.
Zaharn gets back to full guard.
Zaharn looking for a sweep. Not yet Zaharn, not yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zaharn is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Weddle has his hands clasped together but Zaharn extends an breaks Weddle's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Zaharn.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Zaharn!
During a confident post fight interview, Ray Zaharn thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
