PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Keith Raw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Yackey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raw comes to the ring accompanied by DMX - X Gonna Give It To Ya. Yackey has chosen Ante Up as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keith Raw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Yackey!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Raw will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Raw throws an overhand right that lands on Yackey's shoulder, as Yackey tries to avoid the shot.
Yackey lands a nice leg kick that just misses Raw's sensitive parts.
Raw doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Yackey makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Yackey slips a jab and a cross from Raw.
Yackey thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Raw if he has to take too many more of those.

Yackey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Yackey cracks Raw with a solid left hand.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Yackey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Yackey postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Yackey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yackey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

and Yackey counters with a big head kick but Raw shrugs it off.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Yackey.
Raw looks to land a combination but Yackey avoids it well.
Yackey wants to clinch up but Raw keeps it at a distance.

Yackey throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Raw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Yackey swivels and escapes.
Yackey throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Yackey closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Yackey is working for a submission of some sort.
Raw tries to kick Yackey off but Yackey keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Yackey throws a strike but Raw avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Raw is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Raw wants to sweep but no luck.
Yackey trying to control but Raw is working from the bottom.
Yackey slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Raw lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Yackey circles away quickly and effectively.
Keith Raw seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Yackey counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Raw is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Yackey is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Raw knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Yackey stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Raw fails with the takedown.

Raw pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Yackey back to the ropes. Raw follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Raw shoots in and bounces Yackey off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

Raw got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yackey has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Raw has managed to get both his arms back between Yackey's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Yackey showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Raw rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Yackey moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Keith Raw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Raw throws out a loose jab but Yackey uses good head movement to avoid it.

Yackey drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Raw is looking to regain half guard here but Yackey keeps moving and retains side control.
Raw is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Yackey asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Yackey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yackey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jimmy Yackey is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Yackey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Well Yackey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
