The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie dodges the punch combination from McDonald.
McDonald scores with a nice strike.
McDonald throws a body punch but Gracie moves out of range.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McDonald is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, McDonald circles away and we're back to standing.
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.
Gracie tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but McDonald swivels and escapes.
David McDonald has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Gracie.

A momentary lapse in concentration from McDonald enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. McDonald manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Gracie uses his free foot to push down on McDonald's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McDonald.
This has been an exciting period of action!
McDonald avoids a series of strikes thrown by Gracie.
McDonald wants to control but Gracie is having none of it.
McDonald bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Gracie has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. McDonald is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gracie.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gracie shoots in looking for a takedown but McDonald manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Gracie's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
