PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Callan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Gracie Entrance. Mark Callan is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricardo Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Callan!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Callan but Callan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Callan looks to clinch

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Callan swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie drops back, looking for a kneebar! Callan looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Callan looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Callan!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Callan stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gracie is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Callan's half guard.

Gracie wants to take Callan's back but he can't do it this time.

Callan is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Gracie wants to control the pace but Callan is squirming around nicely.
Gracie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee warns Callan that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Gracie thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Gracie is working for a guillotine from mount but Callan frees his head quite easily.

Callan is squirming around, avoiding Gracie's attempts to control the action.

Callan wants to try and get back to his feet.

Callan scores with a one two! Gracie had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Callan defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
The fight stays on the outside here - Callan looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Callan tries to close the distance and clinch but Gracie swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Callan tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gracie wants to free his trapped foot but Callan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Callan is having none of it.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Callan is defending it quite comfortably.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Callan defends it well.

Gracie is keen to just control but Callan is a slippery customer.
Callan won't allow Gracie to pass to mount.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but Callan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gracie to get the leverage.

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Callan doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.

Gracie working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Callan's thigh. Callan counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Callan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Gracie passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Callan stops Gracie from passing to mount.
Ricardo Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You can see the frustration on Callan's face as Gracie controls the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Callan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Callan tries to clinch

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gracie tries to pass the half guard into mount. Callan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Still in half guard, Gracie seems content to control.

Gracie is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Callan is looking to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Gracie is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Callan can do to turn this around?

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Callan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gracie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Callan wants to get back to his feet.

Gracie has hold of Callan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Callan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Gracie quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Gracie but it's paid off an Callan is forced to tap! Nice work by Gracie.
