Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jun Akiyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jim Fortaleza!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Akiyama on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Akiyama shoots and misses
and Fortaleza cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jun Akiyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fortaleza misses with a kick to the body.
Akiyama tries to score a power double leg takedown but Fortaleza sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Akiyama somewhat.

Fortaleza decides to return to a standing position.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Akiyama.

Akiyama is looking to clinch but Fortaleza is avoiding it.
Fortaleza scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Akiyama doesn't seem bothered though.
Akiyama takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Horrible takedown by Akiyama or perhaps it was just good defense by Fortaleza which made him look bad.
Akiyama moves out of range of the body kick.
Akiyama misses with a takedown attempt - Fortaleza sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Fortaleza lands a nice hook to Akiyama's body. Akiyama takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Fortaleza scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Fortaleza jabs Akiyama right on the nose. Akiyama blinks but takes it well.

Akiyama takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Akiyama dives in and grabs Fortaleza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Fortaleza pushes down on Akiyama's head and hops out.

Jim Fortaleza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Akiyama is defended easily by Fortaleza.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fortaleza is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fortaleza displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Akiyama.
Akiyama fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Fortaleza manages to avoid it.
Fortaleza throws a good cross that connects.
Fortaleza fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Akiyama looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Akiyama takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Fortaleza decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Akiyama, up you get!
Fortaleza throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Akiyama stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Fortaleza sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
