PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Toni Waltonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jubal Sackett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Toni Waltonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jubal Sackett!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Waltonen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sackett circles away quickly and effectively.
Sackett pivots, looking for a leg kick but Waltonen is out of range and Sackett settles back down.
Sackett ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Waltonen lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Sackett has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Sackett and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Sackett takes the fight into the clinch.

Waltonen jumps guard and drags Sackett to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Waltonen controls Sackett momentarily but Sackett frees himself.

Waltonen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sackett slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Waltonen might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Sackett avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sackett trying to control the position from guard on top but Waltonen is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Waltonen can't keep his opponent in guard - Sackett advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Sackett is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Sackett is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Waltonen has his foot on Sackett's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sackett works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Waltonen is on top in guard.

Sackett pulls Waltonen in close to his closed guard and prevents Waltonen from doing any damage or advancing position.

Waltonen looking to sit in guard and control but Sackett gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Toni Waltonen will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Sackett fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Waltonen checks it well.
Sackett lands a nice leg kick that just misses Waltonen's sensitive parts.
Waltonen lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Waltonen.

Waltonen misses with the combination.
Toni Waltonen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Good work by Sackett as he checks the leg kick.
Sackett pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Sackett fails in his attempt to clinch.
A head kick misses from Waltonen.
Sackett tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Waltonen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sackett's jab looks to have found its range, popping Waltonen under the eye.
Waltonen feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Sacketts jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Waltonen throws a lazy right hand but Sackett sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sackett is looking to clinch but Waltonen is avoiding it.

Waltonen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Toni Waltonen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sackett tries to clinch but Waltonen is having none of it.
A head kick misses from Sackett.
A chopping leg kick lands by Waltonen.
Waltonen ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Sackett throws out a loose jab but Waltonen uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sackett misses with a straight right.
Waltonen circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sackett tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Waltonen is able to avoid easily.
Sackett lands a head kick!
Waltonen dives in and grabs Sackett's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sackett pushes down on Waltonen's head and hops out.
Sackett works the jab nicely.


It looks like Toni Waltonen has been cut.
Sackett moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sackett displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Waltonen throws out the jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sackett lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.


Waltonen is rocked!
Sackett walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Waltonen drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Sackett swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Waltonen's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jubal Sackett!
