PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mason Randleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, George Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mason Randleman!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab lands there for Randleman.
A slow jab from Randleman misses its intended target.
Randleman throws a body punch but Davis moves out of range.
Randleman lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like George Davis has been cut.
A nice combination there by Randleman.
Randleman avoids a kick to the body.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Randleman wants to sweep but no luck.
Davis wants to pass the guard but Randleman is keeping the position.

Davis distracts Randleman with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Davis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Randleman has his foot on Davis's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Davis works his way back into a safe position though.

Davis has Randleman up against the cage in a clinch.
Randleman tries to break the clinch but Davis is controlling the position.

Davis jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Randleman walks away with a smile on his face. Davis gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Randleman tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away.

Randleman is looking to get to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Davis.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Randleman sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Randleman makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Davis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Randleman as he avoids it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Davis fails with an attempt to clinch.
Randleman misses with a hook to the body
and Davis counters with a thumping low kick.
Davis slips a straight right by Randleman.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Mason Randleman will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Davis clinches up against the cage.
Randleman fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Randleman takes an elbow to the forehead.
Randleman trying to control the position but instead, Davis has worked for underhooks and has pushed Randleman into the cage.

Randleman is fighting off a takedown attempt but Davis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Randleman to the mat. Randleman regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Randleman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.

Still in half guard, Davis seems content to control.

Davis looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Randleman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Davis swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Randleman is now in Davis's guard. A big mistake from Davis there, giving up the dominant position!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Davis is looking to advance position but Randleman won't allow it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Davis in particular looking to stall.
Randleman wants to get back to full guard.
Randleman is controlling Davis's trapped leg to prevent Davis from advancing to side control.

Randleman is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Davis's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Davis's back!

Randleman has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Davis has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Davis wants to control from the top but Randleman keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Davis wants to clinch.
Randleman ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Davis moves away.
George Davis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Davis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Randleman's half guard.

Davis looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Randleman keeps control of the position for the meantime.

The ref stands the fighters back up. George Davis wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Davis lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Randleman circles away quickly and effectively.
Davis shoots in and drives through. Randleman sprawls well.
Davis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Randleman connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Davis jumps into guard, dragging Randleman to the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Randleman controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Randleman stands and steps away. Davis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Randleman tries a low kick but Davis avoids it.
Randleman clobbers Davis with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Davis blocks a head kick by Randleman.
Randleman throws a right and a left that both miss.
Randleman tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Davis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Davis slips a jab and a cross from Randleman.

Davis manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Randleman on his heels. He'll look to pass Randleman's guard now, I'm sure.
Randleman is trying to control the position but Davis postures up.

Davis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Randleman looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Davis is looking to work some ground and pound but Randleman has wrist control.

Randleman is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Davis is aware though and is defending well.

Randleman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Davis doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Davis manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Davis stands up from Randleman's guard - Davis perhaps looking for a knockout.
Mason Randleman is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Randleman misses with a low kick as Davis jumps back.
Mason Randleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Davis moves out of range as Randleman strikes.

Davis rushes Randleman and presses him up against the cage.
Randleman is pressed up against the cage. Davis has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Randleman down to the mat. Randleman avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Davis blocks a leg kick.

Davis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Randleman dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to George Davis.
I think Randleman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
