PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pekka Topohanta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Niaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Topohanta's entrance music is DJ Proteus : Illuminati. A fine choice. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Topohanta is looking to land body kicks.
Dick Niaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Niaz feints a jab promting Topohanta to slip. Niaz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Topohanta slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

It looks like Pekka Topohanta has been cut.
Topohanta scores with a push kick.
Topohanta throws the kick towards the body but Niaz avoids it.
Topohanta thows a body shot but no joy.
Niaz misses with a straight right.

Niaz pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Niaz lands a big head kick that sends Topohanta tumbling to the mat! Niaz takes a step backwards and waves Topohanta back to his feet - he wants the finish!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Niaz is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Topohanta had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Niaz swings for the body but Topohanta moves out of range.
Topohanta lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Topohanta uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Niaz.
Niaz fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Topohanta has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Niaz throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Niaz looks to land a combination but Topohanta avoids it well.
Topohanta scores with a head kick. Niaz tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That has opened up Dick Niaz's cut even more.

Niaz scores with a one two! Topohanta had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

The crowd cheers as Topohanta lands an impressive looking overhand right. Niaz doesn't seem phased though.
This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Topohanta might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Topohanta takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Niaz cracks Topohanta with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Nice uppercut lands for Niaz. That snapped Topohanta's head back.
Topohanta throws a head kick but Niaz moves out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Niaz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Oh Topohanta is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Niaz fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Topohanta seems to have got his legs back now.

Niaz lands a big uppercut and Topohanta crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Topohanta looks OK. Niaz waves Topohanta back to his feet!
Niaz stuns Topohanta with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Niaz drops Topohanta with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Topohanta looks back up at him and smiles so Niaz waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Pekka Topohanta's cut is getting worse.
Topohanta gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Niaz points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Topohanta wakes up just in time to hear Niaz thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
