Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Santana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Why!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Why fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Santana looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Sloppy strikes from Why. Those never looked like landing.
Why misses with a series of wild punches.
Why misses with a jab, cross combination.
Why throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Santana keeps the fight on the outside.
Why takes a swing at Santana's ribcage but misses.
A left and a right from Why both land. Nice combination.
Why swats away the attempt to clinch by Santana.
Santana takes a jab right on the kisser.
Santana has his takedown stuffed
and Why counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Why scores with a decent looking hook.
Why bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Santana's head.
Nice uppercut there from Why.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nice cross by Why.
Why lands with an uppercut that bounces Santana off the cage and back into range.

Why closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Santana is trying to pull guard but Why has him pressed against the cage.
Why can't find room to land a body shot as Santana controls the action.
Why taking a breather.

Santana gets control of Why's arms and successfully pulls guard. Santana will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Why's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Santana had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Why defends it easily.
Santana tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Santana has his foot on Why's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Why works his way back into a safe position though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Why seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Santana looking to hit a scissor sweep but Why is one step ahead there.
Santana is trying to keep Why in close.

Santana has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Why doesn't defend quickly enough and Santana has managed to lock this one up! Can Why escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Santana on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Diego Santana!
Post fight, Diego Santana stared into the camera and said 'Quero agradecer a meu adversário por essa grande luta e dizer que fiz de tudo para dar esse grande show... Treinei muito pra isso, obrigado!!!'.
