PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Luc Picard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Woleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Picard's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, The Picard Song. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Woleman!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Luis Engracia and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woleman fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Picard looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Woleman throws an off balance right hand

and Picard counters with a single leg into guard. Woleman didn't expect that.
Picard might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Woleman pulls Picard in close to prevent any damage.

Woleman has Picard pulled in close to control his posture.
Picard wants to control from the top but Woleman keeps moving.
Picard won't allow Woleman to sweep him here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mark Woleman was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Picard shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Woleman defends it nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Woleman seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Picard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Woleman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Picard thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Woleman paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Woleman swings and misses with a hook to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jean Luc Picard will probably get the nod.

Woleman throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Mark Woleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Woleman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Picard pinned against the cage. Picard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Picard uses his free foot to push down on Woleman's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Woleman.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Picard manages to capitalize on a mistake by Woleman to take his back!
Woleman looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Picard is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Woleman knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Woleman for a finish.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jean Luc Picard.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Picard, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
