PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Alfredsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jason Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Alfredsson!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cross fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alfredsson sprawls well initially but Cross persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Cross wants to stand up but Alfredsson manages to regain full guard.
Alfredsson has his hands on Cross's head, controlling the position.
Alfredsson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cross looking to sit in guard and control but Alfredsson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Alfredsson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cross is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cross could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cross is pulling down on Alfredsson's head to control his posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jason Cross wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Alfredsson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Alfredsson lands in his opponent's guard.

Cross working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Alfredsson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Alfredsson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Alfredsson stays in close to Cross's body and controls the position.
Alfredsson passes Cross's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Alfredsson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Let's hope that Alfredsson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Alfredsson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Cross knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alfredsson on the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Alfredsson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cross is just riding it out for now. Alfredsson eventually gives up the hold.

Alfredsson uses his free foot to push down on Cross's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cross.

Cross wants to hold on but Alfredsson pushes him away.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Alfredsson's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Cross closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Alfredsson did well to prevent Cross getting side control.

Alfredsson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cross pulls his head out easily.

Cross throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Cross wants to pass to mount but Alfredsson is defending the position.
It looks like Cross is going to stand back up.

Cross is looking to stand up but Alfredsson won't let him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Alfredsson throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cross wants to clinch but Alfredsson slips to the side
and Alfredsson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Cross changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Alfredsson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Alfredsson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Alfredsson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cross is working away from the top position though.
Cross tries to stand and escape but Alfredsson actually recovers to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alfredsson is adopting a defensive guard.
Cross throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Alfredsson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Cross drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Alfredsson dives on top into guard.
Alfredsson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Alfredsson passes Cross's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Alfredsson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Alfredsson controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cross is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Alfredsson content just to control the position here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Alfredsson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Alfredsson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cross is looking to get back to his feet here but Alfredsson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Cross's back.

Cross defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Alfredsson's arms.

Alfredsson has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Cross has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Cross wants to control his opponent's hands but Alfredsson gets his hands free.
Alfredsson scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Cross is looking for a way out.
Alfredsson has the hooks in. Cross is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Alfredsson is not going to allow Cross to sit and survive in this position.
Alfredsson has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Cross's body.

Alfredsson has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Cross is in real trouble here. Alfredsson gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Cross is tapping out! Alfredsson wins by rear naked choke!
