PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Archibald Tuttle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason McGully (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuttle comes to the cage accompanied by RAWR. Jason McGully will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Archibald Tuttle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jason McGully!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tuttle tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

McGully feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

McGully thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

McGully throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tuttle works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Tuttle wants to stand and escape but McGully is having none of it.
Tuttle wants to sweep here but McGully controlling him for the moment.
Tuttle might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Tuttle pulls McGully in close to prevent any damage.
McGully trying to control but Tuttle is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McGully swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
McGully is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McGully cracks a nice hook into Tuttle's ribs.
Tuttle fails in his attempt to clinch.
Archibald Tuttle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tuttle gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows McGully to score an easy takedown into full guard.

McGully trying to control the position from guard on top but Tuttle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McGully gets to his feet. Tuttle looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

McGully shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tuttle manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
McGully prevents Tuttle from getting back to his feet.
McGully tries to free his leg and advance position but Tuttle is retaining full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Tuttle misses with a head kick.
Good standup being displayed there by McGully as he connects with a hook.
Tuttle slips a jab and a cross from McGully.
McGully bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Tuttle's head.
McGully fails with a takedown attempt.
Sloppy strikes from McGully. Those never looked like landing.
McGully shoots for a double leg takedown but Tuttle sprawls well. He's pushed McGully's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tuttle connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

A jab from McGully finds it's way through Tuttle's defenses.
Tuttle throws an overhand right that lands on McGully's shoulder, as McGully tries to avoid the shot.
McGully gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Tuttle counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Tuttle.
Archibald Tuttle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason McGully.

McGully has picked Tuttle up - he's going for a ride! McGully dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

McGully is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tuttle defends it well.

Tuttle manages to get to full guard.
McGully trying to control the position from guard on top but Tuttle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

McGully drops back looking for a leg! Tuttle is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Tuttle manages to kick McGully off! McGully jumps back into Tuttle's guard.
Tuttle has McGully pulled in close to control his posture.
Tuttle manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McGully manages to get himself to full guard.

Tuttle controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tuttle seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McGully for as long as he can get away with.

McGully is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Tuttle throws a nice inside leg kick.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from McGully is defended easily by Tuttle.
Tuttle misses with a takedown attempt - McGully sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tuttle looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

A punch lands to the side of Tuttle 's head but he takes it in his stride.

Tuttle looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McGully is fending him off so far but Tuttle persists. Nope, McGully circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for McGully with that takedown attempt.

McGully connects with a crisp jab.

Tuttle fails with an attempt to clinch.
McGully is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
McGully scores with the left hand. Tuttle knows he should have avoided that one.
McGully misses the shot to the body.
Tuttle throws a half hearted mid kick.
Tuttle leaves McGully with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Tuttle takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
McGully fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tuttle avoids it really well and circles away.
Tuttle lands a jab-cross combination.
Tuttle shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has McGully pinned against the cage. McGully gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McGully looks to land a combination. Tuttle sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Tuttle looks for the body kick but McGully saw that one coming.
Tuttle dodges the punch combination from McGully.
Tuttle shoots in for a double leg but McGully sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tuttle throws a right and a left that both miss.

Tuttle drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Tuttle stays in close to McGully's body and controls the position.
Tuttle stops McGully from standing up.
Tuttle would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Tuttle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McGully swivels though and keeps the full guard.

McGully is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tuttle preventing the sweep.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

McGully looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tuttle has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of McGully is proving hard to escape from.

McGully has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tuttle is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McGully.
McGully is looking to reverse the position.

Tuttle decides to stand back up. Tuttle steps back and let's McGully get back to his feet.
Tuttle misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McGully scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
McGully closes this distance looking for a takedown but Tuttle circles away.
McGully shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Tuttle pinned against the cage. Tuttle gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McGully has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
McGully closes the distance and clinches up with Tuttle, looking for a takedown. McGully pushes Tuttle against the cage but Tuttle circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jason McGully will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Tuttle's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Tuttle throws a head kick but McGully moves out of range.
Tuttle tries to clinch but McGully is having none of it.
Nice takedown defense from Tuttle. No joy for McGully on that attempt.
Tuttle shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. McGully eats them both and turns towards Tuttle to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Tuttle throws a wild body kick that McGully sees coming a mile off.

Tuttle fails to pull guard.
McGully tries for a takedown. No joy.

McGully has hold of one of Tuttle's legs. Tuttle is fighting the takedown attempt but McGully gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
McGully wants to stand and escape but instead Tuttle has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Tuttle stands up from McGully's guard - Tuttle perhaps looking for a knockout.
McGully takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Tuttle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tuttle throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
McGully avoids the head kick by Tuttle.
Tuttle displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McGully.

Tuttle has McGully pressed against the cage, preventing McGully from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Tuttle jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as McGully walks away with a smile on his face. Tuttle gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
McGully cracks a nice hook into Tuttle's ribs.

Tuttle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for McGully. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

McGully scores with a jab to the body.
Tuttle ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

McGully shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Tuttle pushes McGully off looking to stand but McGully dives back in and keeps control.

McGully is looking for a kimura but Tuttle is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for McGully to get the leverage.
Tuttle tries to kick McGully off but McGully keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Jason McGully is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McGully manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Tuttle on his heels. He'll look to pass Tuttle's guard now, I'm sure.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Archibald Tuttle.
I think McGully has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
